Gen 5 SuperSix EVO Carbon Frame
The Cannondale SuperSix EVO 4 uses the fifth generation of Cannondale’s all-round race platform. Rather than converting the bike into a specialist aero machine, Cannondale has refined the existing formula around three closely related priorities: low weight, aerodynamic efficiency and predictable handling.
The standard Gen 5 carbon frame is quoted at approximately 910g for a fully painted 56cm example, with the matching fork adding approximately 430g. These figures apply to the frameset rather than the complete bicycle and can vary with size, finish and production tolerance.
The Gen 5 platform is lighter than its direct predecessor while retaining sculpted aerodynamic tube profiles and a full disc-brake configuration. This helps the Cannondale SuperSix EVO 4 feel responsive during climbing and acceleration without surrendering the speed benefits of a modern aero-optimised road bike.
Professional testing of the Gen 5 platform consistently identifies balance as its defining quality. It is not the most extreme climbing bike, the deepest aero bike or the most relaxed endurance machine. Its strength is performing exceptionally well across all the conditions encountered during real races and fast road rides.
Proportional Response Engineering
Cannondale adjusts the carbon lay-up and geometry for each frame size rather than applying one construction recipe across the entire range.
A smaller and generally lighter rider does not place the same loads through a frame as a taller, more powerful cyclist. Proportional Response engineering allows stiffness, compliance and handling characteristics to be tuned more appropriately around each size.
This approach also extends to fork offset, crank length, stem length and seatpost offset. The aim is to provide a consistent SuperSix EVO character instead of making smaller sizes feel nervous or larger sizes feel slow.
Aerodynamic Development
The Gen 5 SuperSix EVO uses truncated aerodynamic tube profiles, a narrow Delta Steerer, internal cable routing and an aero-specific seatpost to reduce drag without excessive weight.
Cannondale developed the frame using computational fluid dynamics and wind-tunnel testing. The objective was not to create visually extreme shapes, but to reduce drag in areas that could deliver worthwhile real-world gains.
The complete platform sits between a traditional lightweight climber and a dedicated aero road bike. This is particularly valuable for amateur racers because most routes include a mixture of climbing, flat roads, wind, descending and repeated acceleration rather than one perfectly controlled type of terrain.
Delta Steerer and Concealed Routing
The Delta Steerer uses a distinctive tapered profile that creates room for internal brake-hose routing while helping Cannondale reduce the head tube’s frontal area.
The Vision carbon handlebar and Cannondale Conceal stem support this clean routing arrangement. The result is a streamlined cockpit with no exposed brake hoses across the front of the bicycle.
Integration improves appearance and aerodynamic efficiency but increases workshop complexity. Headset-bearing replacement, stem changes and cockpit adjustments may require partial brake-hose disconnection and hydraulic bleeding.
A professional fit should therefore be completed before the fork steerer is cut or the final cockpit height is established.
SRAM Rival AXS Wireless Shifting
SRAM Rival AXS transmits shift commands wirelessly from the controls to the derailleurs. This removes mechanical shift cables and their associated friction, contamination and gradual stretch.
The removable derailleur batteries simplify charging and can be swapped between the front and rear derailleurs if necessary. Riders completing long events can also carry a charged compatible spare.
The system allows riders to customise button functions and check battery status. The shifting requires minimal lever movement, which is helpful during hard efforts, out-of-saddle climbing or cold-weather rides with full-finger gloves.
The 2x12 configuration provides close ratio progression while retaining a broad 494% theoretical range. It is an excellent match for Australian roads where high-speed riding can be interrupted by short, steep climbs.
DT Swiss ERC LOG 45 Carbon Wheels
The DT Swiss ERC LOG 45 wheels give the Cannondale SuperSix EVO 4 genuine race capability from the first ride.
Their 45mm carbon rims provide a useful aerodynamic profile for fast bunch riding, breakaways and flatter races without creating the weight and handling compromises associated with much deeper wheels.
A 22mm internal width supports contemporary 28mm and 30mm road tyres well, helping create a rounded tyre profile and allowing appropriate pressures for rider mass and road conditions.
The DT Swiss 370 rear hub uses the LN Ratchet System. This design provides dependable engagement and can be serviced using established DT Swiss parts and procedures.
Vision Trimax Carbon Aero Handlebar
The Vision Trimax Carbon Aero handlebar uses a flattened upper section to reduce drag and provide a broad contact area for the hands.
The narrower 380mm width supplied on most sizes reflects a contemporary performance trend towards reduced frontal area. Narrow handlebars can improve aerodynamics, but they must still suit the rider’s shoulder width, control preferences and breathing mechanics.
A professional bike fit should determine whether the original bar width is appropriate. Replacing an internally routed handlebar can involve more labour than changing a conventional externally routed component.
BSA Threaded Bottom Bracket
The 68mm BSA threaded bottom bracket offers a welcome degree of mechanical simplicity inside a highly integrated race bike.
Replacement cups are widely available, and the standard is familiar to Australian bicycle workshops. This reduces dependence on proprietary frame bearings and makes long-term maintenance more manageable.
Universal Derailleur Hanger
The frame uses the widely supported Universal Derailleur Hanger standard.
A slightly bent hanger can create poor shifting across a 12-speed cassette, even when the damage is difficult to see. UDH availability makes it easier to source a replacement at home or while travelling.
The frame standard also provides future compatibility with selected full-mount rear derailleur systems, although each drivetrain conversion must be assessed as a complete system.
32mm Measured Tyre Clearance
The Cannondale SuperSix EVO 4 accepts tyres measuring up to 32mm while retaining at least 4mm of surrounding clearance.
