KingPin Rear Suspension
KingPin is Cannondale’s lightweight rear-compliance system for gravel riding. A thru-axle pivot at the seat tube allows controlled vertical movement through engineered flex in the rear triangle and seatpost, delivering up to 30mm of bump-smoothing travel without a conventional shock, linkage assembly or air spring.
The system is designed to take the sharp edge off corrugations, embedded rocks, roots and broken road surfaces while maintaining lateral stiffness for acceleration and cornering. Because there is no conventional shock to pressurise or tune, KingPin provides additional comfort without introducing the setup demands associated with mountain-bike suspension.
Its benefit is not simply softness. Allowing the rear wheel to track uneven terrain more closely can improve seated traction on loose climbs and help reduce the repeated impacts that contribute to fatigue during long gravel rides.
Proportional Response Construction
Cannondale varies the frame’s carbon lay-up and geometry according to frame size. This Proportional Response approach is intended to give smaller and larger riders a more consistent balance of stiffness, compliance and suspension behaviour rather than applying one carbon structure across every size.
This matters because a frame that feels appropriately compliant beneath a larger rider can feel overly rigid beneath a lighter cyclist. Size-specific tuning allows KingPin movement and overall ride quality to work more effectively with the rider’s proportions.
SRAM Rival XPLR AXS Wireless Shifting
SRAM Rival XPLR AXS eliminates the mechanical shift cable between the controls and rear derailleur. Shift commands are transmitted electronically, producing consistent operation unaffected by cable contamination, stretch or housing friction.
The removable derailleur battery simplifies charging and can be swapped with a compatible spare. The AXS system also permits button customisation, firmware updates and drivetrain monitoring through SRAM’s application.
The 13-speed cassette offers more ratios than a conventional 12-speed 1x system. This allows SRAM to maintain a useful gravel range while reducing some of the large cadence changes associated with wide-range single-chainring drivetrains.
Reserve 40|44 GR Carbon Wheels
The Reserve wheelset uses a shallower 40mm front rim and deeper 44mm rear rim. This mixed-depth arrangement aims to balance front-wheel stability and steering control with aerodynamic performance at the rear.
Carbon construction reduces unnecessary rim mass while providing the lateral stiffness required for accurate cornering and responsive acceleration. The rims are tubeless-ready and paired with DT Swiss 370 hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes.
These are not token carbon wheels included solely to improve the specification sheet. They are genuine performance components suited to fast gravel, long mixed-surface events and road-heavy adventure riding.
StashPort and StashBag
StashPort provides concealed storage inside the downtube, accessed beneath the bottle cage. The included StashBag can hold compact essentials such as a tube, tyre levers, inflator and small tools.
Internal storage reduces the need for a saddle bag and keeps frequently used repair supplies protected and securely positioned. Owners should follow Cannondale’s packing and weight guidance rather than placing loose metal tools directly inside the frame.
OutFront Steering Geometry
The 55mm-offset fork works with the Topstone’s relaxed front-end geometry to combine stable handling at speed with responsive low-speed steering. Cannondale describes this as OutFront Steering Geometry.
The result is a bike designed to remain composed on fast, loose descents while still feeling lively on sealed roads, compact gravel and tighter trails. This broad handling range supports the Topstone’s position as an all-round platform rather than a specialist gravel race bike or drop-bar mountain bike.
Generous Tyre Clearance
The frame accepts measured tyres up to 52mm with a single-chainring drivetrain, while the rigid fork accepts measured tyres up to 56mm. Actual clearance depends on rim width, tyre construction and the manufacturer’s required space around the tyre.
This gives riders considerable freedom to tailor the bicycle. Fast 40mm to 45mm tyres suit road-heavy gravel and racing, while larger-volume tyres can increase grip and comfort on loose, sandy or rocky routes.
Threaded Bottom Bracket and Universal Hanger
A BSA 68mm threaded bottom bracket makes routine bearing replacement more straightforward than many press-fit systems. The Universal Derailleur Hanger is widely supported and easier to source than a highly specialised frame-specific hanger.
