  • Claimed power saving: 5.3 watts at 35km/h
  • Claimed 70km time saving: More than 50 seconds when averaging approximately 350 watts under Wilier’s stated test conditions

These figures are manufacturer claims produced through controlled aerodynamic development. Actual savings depend on rider position, clothing, wheels, tyres, bottle configuration, wind direction, surface conditions and speed.

Drivetrain Compatibility

The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 is designed around modern single-chainring gravel drivetrains.

Common factory configurations include:

  • SRAM Red XPLR AXS 1x13
  • SRAM Force XPLR AXS 1x13
  • SRAM Rival XPLR AXS 1x13
  • Shimano GRX Di2 1x12

SRAM Force XPLR AXS Configuration

  • Shifting: Wireless electronic
  • Number of rear gears: 13
  • Chainring: Commonly 40T
  • Cassette: 10-46T
  • Approximate cassette range: 460%
  • Rear derailleur: SRAM Force XPLR AXS Full Mount
  • Hanger arrangement: Directly mounted through the Universal Derailleur Hanger interface
  • Brakes: SRAM Force hydraulic disc
  • Rotor size: Commonly 160mm front and rear
  • The 40x46T lowest ratio creates a useful climbing gear for racing and unloaded gravel riding without sacrificing excessive speed on sealed-road connections.

Shimano GRX Di2 Configuration

  • Shifting: Electronic
  • Number of rear gears: 12
  • Drivetrain layout: 1x12
  • Rear derailleur: Shimano GRX Di2
  • Brakes: Shimano GRX hydraulic disc
  • Cassette, chainring and wheel specifications vary by regional build.
  • Electronic drivetrain configurations create the cleanest installation because shift cables are eliminated. Mechanical 1x builds remain possible where the correct routing parts and complete component compatibility are confirmed.
  • Wheels and Tyres
  • Premium wheelset: Miche Graff Aero 48
  • Construction: Carbon fibre
  • Rim depth: 48mm
  • Design purpose: Aerodynamic gravel racing
  • Tubeless compatibility: Yes
  • Typical premium-build tyres: Vittoria Terreno T50
  • Tyre size: 700x50c
  • Tyre construction: Tubeless-ready
  • Maximum tyre clearance: 52mm
  • The Miche Graff Aero 48 wheelset is designed specifically for fast gravel rather than adapted from a narrow road rim. Its deep carbon profile contributes aerodynamic efficiency, while its width supports large-volume tyres that can operate at lower pressures.
  • Other builds may be supplied with Miche Graff Allroad Carbon, Miche Sterrato or alternative regional wheelsets. The physical bicycle specification should always be checked before purchase.
  • Cockpit

Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

High-Modulus SLR Carbon Construction

The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 uses the same broad family of high-performance carbon technologies developed for Wilier’s premium road-racing platforms.

The monocoque structure combines high-modulus carbon with Liquid Crystal Polymer fibres. These viscoelastic reinforcement fibres are intended to improve vibration control and impact behaviour without making the frame feel soft under pedalling loads.

Wilier reinforced the chainstay area to maintain sharp power transfer despite the longer stays required by a large-clearance gravel frame.

The result is a frame that feels firm, immediate and highly responsive. It is designed to convert hard accelerations into forward movement rather than isolate the rider from every surface impact. Riders seeking maximum comfort should therefore pay close attention to tyre selection and pressure.

Aerodynamic Gravel Design

The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 applies road-racing aerodynamic development to a modern gravel platform.

Distinctive frame elements include:

  • Narrow frontal profile near the head tube
  • Broad, shaped down tube designed to manage airflow around bottles
  • Dropped rear stays
  • Sculpted top-tube and seat-tube junction
  • Fully concealed cockpit routing
  • Aerodynamically developed fork profile
  • Optional integrated Aerokit hydration system
  • Deep-section gravel wheel compatibility

The bicycle is designed for events where riders spend substantial time above 30km/h on open gravel, hardpack and sealed-road transitions. Aerodynamics matter less during slow technical climbing but become increasingly significant during fast racing over long distances.

Wilier’s claimed 5.3-watt saving at 35km/h should be treated as a controlled comparison rather than a guaranteed result for every cyclist.

Fast, Direct Gravel-Racing Geometry

The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 combines road-racing responsiveness with dimensions adapted for large tyres and loose terrain.

Its short rear triangle creates rapid acceleration, while the front end becomes progressively steeper across larger sizes. The bike changes direction quickly and rewards confident rider input.

This creates an engaging feel on maintained gravel, fast corners and rolling terrain. The trade-off is that the bicycle feels firmer and more active than a relaxed adventure-gravel platform.

Professional testing generally characterises the ride as sharp, sporty and race focused rather than plush. The 50mm tyres are therefore not excessive. Their volume gives riders useful control over comfort, grip and stability.

52mm Tyre Clearance

The increase to 52mm clearance is one of the most important improvements over the previous Wilier Rave SLR.

Wider tyres allow riders to choose:

  • Fast 40mm file treads for smooth gravel races
  • 42mm to 45mm tyres for mixed hardpack and rough roads
  • 48mm to 50mm tyres for corrugations and loose descents
  • More aggressive tread for sand and broken surfaces
  • Reinforced casings for rocky or remote events

Actual tyre width varies considerably with rim width, casing construction and pressure. A nominally 50mm tyre may measure wider once installed.

Safe surrounding clearance should be checked on the completed wheel and tyre combination. A tyre that fits in clean, dry conditions may become unsuitable when mud and embedded stones accumulate.

Universal Derailleur Hanger and Full-Mount Compatibility

The Universal Derailleur Hanger supports current replacement standards and allows appropriate SRAM Full-Mount XPLR derailleurs to attach directly around the rear axle.

A Full-Mount derailleur can improve stiffness and shifting consistency by creating a direct relationship between the derailleur and cassette.

The interface also removes a conventional hanger from compatible drivetrain configurations. Riders using another shifting system can fit the correct conventional Universal Derailleur Hanger arrangement.

Full-Mount compatibility does not make every derailleur or cassette automatically suitable. Shifters, chain, cassette, chainline and freehub must be assessed as one complete drivetrain.

Fully Internal Cable Routing

Brake hoses and compatible control lines are concealed through the handlebar, stem and frame.

Benefits include:

  • Cleaner appearance
  • Reduced frontal clutter
  • Improved aerodynamic integration
  • Less exposed housing
  • Strong visual continuity with Wilier road-racing models

The compromise is servicing complexity. Replacing headset bearings, changing cockpit dimensions or preparing the bicycle for travel may require brake-hose disconnection and bleeding.

A professional fit is especially valuable before the final cockpit and hose lengths are established.

Wilier F-Bar Carbon Cockpit

The monocoque carbon Wilier F-Bar weighs approximately 380g and integrates the handlebar and stem into one structure.

Its shape is intended to reduce turbulence while creating a clean transition into the frame. The one-piece design also reduces separate clamps and hardware.

The drawback is limited adjustment. Changing stem length normally means replacing the complete cockpit. Riders uncertain about reach or handlebar width may prefer a build with the separate Wilier Stemma S and Wilier Barra cockpit.

Miche Graff Aero 48 Wheels

The Miche Graff Aero 48 wheelset was developed for competitive gravel use.

The 48mm carbon rims seek to combine:

  • Aerodynamic efficiency
  • Stable tyre support
  • Gravel-racing durability
  • Responsive acceleration
  • Predictable control
  • Tubeless compatibility

Deep rims can save energy on fast courses, but riders should still consider crosswind exposure, body mass and handling experience.

Aerokit Hydration System

The optional Wilier Aerokit integrates two bottles into a shaped aerodynamic system with a combined 1,100ml capacity.

The system is designed to stabilise airflow around the frame and reduce turbulence compared with ordinary round bottles.

A conventional bottle can still be used where practical replacement, aid-station availability or additional capacity matters more than aerodynamic integration.

Product Care & Warranty Info

A professional bike fit before final hose trimming can reduce the need for expensive cockpit changes later.

Tubeless Care

Most performance builds are supplied with tubeless-ready wheels and tyres.

After setup:

  • Check tyre pressure before every ride.
  • Inspect sealant every two to four months.
  • Check it more frequently during hot Australian summers.
  • Inspect the tread and sidewalls after rocky rides.
  • Check carbon rims after significant impacts.
  • Confirm that both tyre beads remain seated.
  • Replace dried or contaminated sealant.
  • Carry a tube and repair tools on remote rides.

Drivetrain Maintenance

Clean and lubricate the chain regularly. Gravel dust can create an abrasive paste that accelerates wear across the chain, cassette, chainring and derailleur pulleys.

Inspect:

  • Chain wear
  • Chainring teeth
  • Cassette teeth
  • Derailleur pulleys
  • Rear-derailleur alignment
  • Full-Mount or Universal Derailleur Hanger interfaces
  • Battery security
  • Brake-hose condition
  • Chainstay protection

Wireless batteries should be charged before long events, and carrying a compatible spare is sensible for remote racing.

Industry & Rider Feedback. A few Comparison Options

GRAN FONDO published its first-ride review on 23 June 2025 after testing a top-level Wilier Rave SLR ID2 fitted with 50mm tyres.

  • The review described the bicycle as an uncompromising gravel-racing machine with distinctive styling, increased off-road capability and a clear focus on podium-level speed.
  • Its testers praised the combination of aerodynamic frame development and substantially increased tyre clearance. The larger tyres enabled the bicycle to remain composed on loose and rough terrain without removing the sharp acceleration expected from a racing platform.
  • The complete test bicycle weighed approximately 8kg in size Large. GRAN FONDO noted that the Wilier Rave SLR ID2 felt fast and responsive, but its design and premium equipment placed it firmly in the expensive performance category.

Cyclist published its independent review on 18 June 2026.

  • The publication praised the Wilier Rave SLR ID2’s appearance, 52mm tyre clearance, wheelset quality and ability to perform on gravel roads and fast mixed surfaces. It described the bicycle as a go-fast gravel machine rather than a drop-bar trail bike.
  • The review identified the race-oriented ride as an important distinction. Riders wanting a plush adventure bike may find the frame firm, while competitive cyclists are more likely to appreciate its direct response and precise steering.
  • Integrated cable routing was also identified as a maintenance consideration. The clean front end improves appearance and aerodynamic efficiency but can increase disassembly requirements for certain cockpit and headset tasks.

TOUR published its laboratory-supported assessment on 27 July 2026.

  • Its SRAM Red XPLR test bicycle weighed 7.91kg and was praised for combining road-bike aerodynamics with impressive off-road capability. Despite the 50mm tyres, the bicycle remained agile and responsive.
  • The review characterised the bike as a sports car with tractor tyres, capturing its unusual combination of aerodynamic speed, low weight and large-volume traction. It regarded the redesign as a substantial improvement over the previous model’s limited tyre clearance and less predictable wide-tyre handling.
