Compatibility Notes

Designed for Shimano 11-speed systems.
Directional installation is required for correct shifting performance.
Not suitable for Shimano 12-speed road, SRAM Flattop, SRAM Eagle 12-speed, Campagnolo 12/13-speed or older 8/9/10-speed drivetrains.
For best performance, install with a compatible Shimano 11-speed cassette and chainrings.
A fresh chain should be paired with a cassette that is not excessively worn.

SIL-TEC Low-Friction Coating

Shimano’s SIL-TEC treatment is designed to reduce friction across the chain plates and rollers. This helps the drivetrain run smoother, quieter and cleaner, while also improving long-term wear resistance when properly maintained.

HG-X11 Asymmetric Plate Design

The CN-HG901-11 uses Shimano’s HG-X11 asymmetric plate profile. The outer and inner plates are shaped differently to optimise shifting across both the cassette and chainrings. Correct chain orientation is important because the directional profile is part of the shifting design.

Hollow Pin Construction

Hollow pins help reduce weight while maintaining strength for road racing, gravel riding and MTB use. This makes the HG901 a premium choice over heavier everyday 11-speed chains.

Premium Dura-Ace/XTR-Level Build

The HG901 sits at the top of Shimano’s 11-speed chain range and is designed for riders who want the best shift quality and drivetrain refinement from an 11-speed Shimano system.

Quick Link Included

The included Shimano Quick Link simplifies installation and chain removal compared with traditional joining pins. This is especially useful for drivetrain servicing, travel, workshop maintenance and emergency replacement.

Smooth and Quiet Drivetrain Feel

When fitted to a clean, compatible Shimano 11-speed drivetrain, the HG901 helps reduce chain noise and improves shift response, especially under load during climbing, sprinting and fast bunch riding.

Product Care

Clean and lubricate the chain regularly.
Use a quality chain lubricant suited to road, gravel or MTB conditions.
Wipe excess lubricant after application to reduce dirt build-up.
Check chain wear with a quality chain checker.
Replace the chain before it becomes excessively worn.
Clean more often after wet rides, dusty gravel, MTB use or indoor trainer sessions.
Avoid harsh degreasers that strip lubrication from inside the rollers.
Inspect the Quick Link and chain links after installation.
Do not reuse damaged or heavily worn quick links.
Have shifting checked after fitting a new chain.

Warranty Information

Warranty coverage is subject to Shimano or retailer terms and conditions.
Warranty generally applies to manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship.
Normal chain wear, poor lubrication, corrosion, incorrect installation, drivetrain incompatibility, crash damage and contamination are generally not covered.
Chain life depends on riding conditions, chain lubrication, cleaning habits, cassette condition and rider power.
Professional installation is recommended for correct chain length, directional fitting, Quick Link installation and drivetrain adjustment.
