Matched 50/34T shift design
Shimano develops its inner and outer chainrings as matched pairs. The Shimano Ultegra R8100 34T Inner Chainring works with the shift ramps, pickup pins and tooth profiles built into the corresponding 50T outer chainring.
This matched relationship helps provide:

Aluminium construction
The Shimano Ultegra R8100 34T Inner Chainring uses aluminium to balance stiffness, low weight and durability. Its structure resists unwanted lateral movement while transferring pedalling force into the crankset.
Aluminium is especially appropriate for the inner ring, which experiences prolonged torque when a rider is climbing or accelerating in lower gears.
Asymmetric four-arm mounting
The chainring uses Shimano’s asymmetric four-arm mounting system. This design distributes pedalling loads through the crank’s four-arm structure while allowing material to be concentrated in high-stress areas.
