FULL PIN Construction

The SRAM Force XG-1270 E1 Cassette uses SRAM’s FULL PIN architecture, joining eleven lightweight stamped sprockets with 123 high-strength stainless-steel pins. This creates a rigid cassette structure without the machining cost of SRAM RED’s one-piece X-DOME design.

The pinned structure helps the cassette resist flex when the rider shifts under moderate pedalling load. It also delivers a strong balance of durability, manufacturing efficiency and weight, which is a major reason the SRAM Force XG-1270 E1 Cassette offers such good value.

Open Cassette Architecture

The open design leaves space between the sprockets and connecting structure, allowing dirt, water and excess lubricant to clear more readily than on a heavily enclosed cassette.

This benefits Australian riders dealing with:

Road grit after summer storms
Dust from rural shoulders
Gravel-road contamination
Wet commuting
Fine debris from coarse chip seal
High-mileage training conditions

The open design improves cleanability, but regular chain and cassette maintenance is still required.

Nickel-Chrome Plating

The sprockets receive a nickel-chrome finish designed to improve corrosion resistance, surface durability and drivetrain refinement. The smooth plated surface also helps reduce mechanical noise when paired with a clean, correctly lubricated Flattop chain.

The nickel-chrome finish is more understated than SRAM RED’s Rainbow and gold treatments, making it easy to match with almost any premium road-bike colour scheme.

X-Range Gearing

X-Range redistributes the drivetrain’s overall range between the front chainrings and rear cassette. Every SRAM Force XG-1270 E1 Cassette begins with a 10-tooth sprocket, allowing smaller front chainrings without sacrificing a high-speed top gear.

The result is a drivetrain with:

Broader overall gearing
Smaller front chainrings
More consistent progression through commonly used gears
Close high-speed steps on the 10-28T, 10-30T and 10-33T options
Easier climbing gears without moving to an MTB cassette

At least five one-tooth shifts are provided on the 10-28T, 10-30T and 10-33T versions. This helps riders fine-tune cadence when holding a fast wheel, riding near threshold or approaching a sprint.

Electronic-Shift Optimisation

The tooth profiles and ramps are designed around SRAM AXS electronic derailleur movement. This helps produce controlled, repeatable chain transfers across the cassette.

10-28T

The 10-28T version is the closest-ratio option and provides the smoothest cadence progression. Six consecutive one-tooth transitions from 10T through to 16T make it especially effective for racing, criteriums and fast flat-road riding.

Best suited to:

Strong riders
Flat and rolling terrain
Criterium racing
Close-ratio race gearing
Riders using compact SRAM front chainrings but not requiring a large climbing sprocket

10-30T

The 10-30T version preserves six consecutive sprockets from 10T through to 15T while adding a more useful climbing gear than the 10-28T version.

Best suited to:

Fast all-round road riding
Rolling bunch rides
Racing with moderate climbing
Strong riders wanting slightly easier low gearing
Riders who find 10-28T restrictive but do not need 33T or 36T

10-33T

The 10-33T version is arguably the most balanced choice for varied Australian road riding. It retains close high-speed progression while providing a meaningful climbing gear for longer or steeper hills.

Best suited to:

Mixed terrain
Long endurance routes
Mountain training
Gran fondos
Fast bunch rides with climbing
Riders wanting one cassette for training and racing

10-36T

The 10-36T version delivers the widest range and easiest climbing gear. The larger jumps higher in the cassette are more noticeable, but the 360% range offers substantial versatility.

Best suited to:

Steep climbs
Mountain routes
High-cadence climbing
Heavier riders
Endurance events
All-road cycling
Riders using larger front chainrings who still require a low climbing gear

Fit Checklist

Confirm that the rear wheel uses an XDR driver.
Confirm rear-derailleur capacity for the selected cassette.
Use a SRAM Road Flattop 12-speed chain.
Check chain length when changing range.
Inspect the derailleur hanger for alignment.
Confirm that the wheel is fully seated in the frame.
Install the cassette using the correct spline tool.
Tighten to SRAM’s published torque specification.
Complete AXS micro-adjustment after installation if needed.
Check shifting across all sprockets before riding under load.

The SRAM Force XG-1270 E1 Cassette is ideal for Australian cyclists who want premium AXS performance without paying the price premium for SRAM RED. The tightly spaced 10-28T and 10-30T options reward criterium racers, fast bunch riders and cyclists riding flatter coastal roads, while the 10-33T is the strongest all-round choice for mixed terrain, rolling backroads and long climbing routes. Riders tackling steep mountain roads, endurance events or fast all-road courses will appreciate the 10-36T option, which provides a noticeably easier climbing gear without abandoning SRAM’s smooth 12-speed road platform.

Product Care

Use a compatible SRAM Road Flattop chain.
Check chain wear regularly with a suitable chain-wear tool.
Replace the chain before excessive elongation damages the cassette.
Clean the sprockets with bike-safe drivetrain cleaner and a soft brush.
Avoid soaking the cassette in aggressive solvents.
Lubricate the chain rather than pouring lubricant over the cassette.
Wipe excess chain lubricant after every application.
Inspect sprocket teeth for hooking, burrs or uneven wear.
Check cassette tightness if clicking develops under load.
Inspect the XDR driver when changing the cassette.
Confirm derailleur-hanger alignment if shifting becomes inconsistent.
Recheck AXS micro-adjustment after changing wheels or cassette range.
Avoid severe cross-chaining where practical.
Clean the drivetrain after wet, salty or dusty riding.

Cyclingnews, 27 June 2025

Cyclingnews reviewed the updated SRAM Force AXS E1 groupset and concluded that it narrows the gap to flagship SRAM RED while retaining a more attainable price. The review found that Force offered excellent overall performance and benefited from technology introduced at RED level. For the cassette, the important takeaway is that SRAM retains its proven X-Range road gearing while offering four ratios that let riders configure the drivetrain for racing, climbing or mixed-surface riding.

Cyclist, 11 September 2025

Cyclist described the 2025 SRAM Force AXS update as a comprehensive improvement that delivered better ergonomics and more accurate shifting across the group. The publication noted that the drivetrain could still be quieter than ideal in some conditions, but considered the overall upgrade substantial. A clean SRAM Force XG-1270 E1 Cassette, correctly paired with a Flattop chain and accurately adjusted derailleur, remains central to achieving the refined shifting the groupset is capable of.

GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine, 17 June 2025

GRAN FONDO tested the updated Force AXS and described it as effectively bringing much of SRAM RED’s premium technology to a more accessible level. The review emphasised that the difference between RED and Force had become increasingly narrow in real-world performance. This supports the SRAM Force XG-1270 E1 Cassette’s position as the practical choice for riders who care more about ride performance and durability than the final reduction in grams.

Rider Feedback and Community Sentiment

Riders moving from an older Force cassette commonly praise the new generation’s quieter nickel-chrome finish, predictable AXS shifts and useful range selection. The 10-33T receives especially positive feedback because it keeps the close 10T-to-15T sequence riders value on fast roads while adding a low gear capable of handling substantial climbs.

Riders using the 10-36T version often highlight its practicality on long mountain routes and steep endurance events. It gives road cyclists a significantly easier gear without requiring a gravel derailleur or MTB cassette. Owners also appreciate that the cassette remains interchangeable across compatible SRAM RED, Force and Rival AXS road systems.

Why We Love It at Pedal Passion

The 10-33T is our choice for a versatile performance road bike, while the 10-36T is excellent for mountain routes, endurance events and fast all-road builds. It is durable enough for regular training, light enough for serious racing and far more affordable to replace than the SRAM RED alternative.

SRAM stuff

Fit perfect. No install issues. Light weight!

Exact product I ordered

Great price, better than that bid site.

For Creo E-Bike

Had to replace the original cassette when chain was replaced after 2,000 miles. Hopefully, since this is an upgrade from the original equipment, it was last at least through 2 chain replacements

Nice cassette for gravel, SRAM Red 1x

I love the polished finish. It looks awesome. I run this on my Pivot Vault gravel bike with SRAM Red Xplr 1x. Its top of the line gear, and works flawlessly.

Excellent, but wish they had a Red version of this cassette

I upgraded to a full XPLR groupset on my specialized crux. The only component that does not (currently) come in a SRAM Red grade is this cassette. None the less, its a great cassette with a lot of range.
