Integrated Power Meter

The SRAM Force XPLR AXS power meter gives riders immediate access to structured training and race-pacing data.

Power measurement can help cyclists:

  • Pace long gravel climbs
  • Monitor effort during headwinds
  • Control early-race intensity
  • Analyse interval consistency
  • Compare fitness across changing surfaces
  • Manage effort during long endurance events
  • Review race and training performance

The power meter should be connected, calibrated and updated according to SRAM’s instructions. Battery condition and firmware should be checked before important events.

Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

Proportional Response Carbon Construction

  • Cannondale’s Proportional Response design adjusts the carbon lay-up and selected dimensions for each frame size.
  • A smaller and generally lighter rider does not place the same loads through a frame as a taller, more powerful cyclist. Applying identical carbon construction across every size could make smaller frames unnecessarily rigid or leave larger frames insufficiently supported.

The Cannondale SuperX 1 is developed to provide a consistent balance of:

  • Low weight
  • Pedalling stiffness
  • Vertical compliance
  • Torsional control
  • Durability
  • Predictable handling

Crank length, cockpit dimensions and seatpost offset also change across the size range to create a more proportionate complete bicycle.

Aerodynamic Gravel Development

The Cannondale SuperX borrows substantial aerodynamic thinking from Cannondale’s road-racing platforms.

Key aerodynamic details include:

  • Narrow frontal profile
  • Delta Steerer
  • Fully concealed cable routing
  • Sculpted head tube
  • Deep down tube
  • Aerodynamically shaped fork
  • Integrated carbon cockpit
  • D-shaped seatpost
  • Deep 50mm gravel wheels
  • Optional aerodynamic bottle and cage integration

Cannondale developed the platform around the increasing speed of modern gravel racing, where leading groups can maintain high average speeds across hardpack and sealed-road transitions.

  • Cannondale's testing indicates the current Cannondale SuperX requires approximately 1.6 fewer watts at 35km/h than the preceding SuperSix EVO SE platform under controlled conditions.
  • Real-world savings vary with rider position, wheels, tyres, bottles, surface, wind direction and speed. Aerodynamic development is most valuable during fast racing and exposed road sections rather than slow technical climbing.

Terrain-Smoothing Flex Zones

  • The carbon frame uses carefully developed flex zones through the seat tube, rear triangle and top tube.
  • These areas work with the D-shaped carbon seatpost to absorb vibration and reduce the sharpness of repeated gravel impacts.
  • The goal is not to create suspension-like movement. Instead, the frame introduces controlled flex to help reduce fatigue without weakening the direct response expected from a race bike.
  • This matters during long Australian gravel events where corrugations, coarse surfaces and repeated square-edged impacts can gradually reduce a rider’s ability to maintain power.

D-Shaped Carbon Seatpost

The Cannondale C1 Aero 27 Carbon seatpost combines aerodynamic shaping with controlled rearward movement.

Its profile is designed to:

  • Reduce frontal area
  • Provide controlled compliance
  • Moderate gravel vibration
  • Reduce seated fatigue
  • Maintain useful lateral stiffness
  • Integrate cleanly with the frame

The post uses an integrated frame binder. Correct torque and carbon assembly compound are important during installation.

OutFront Steering Geometry

OutFront geometry combines the frame’s relatively relaxed head angle with a longer 55mm fork offset.

This arrangement is designed to provide stability without making the steering slow or unresponsive.

On gravel, the design helps the front wheel track confidently through loose corners and rough descents. During racing, it retains the agility required for passing, correcting a line at speed and navigating tightly packed groups.

Delta Steerer and Internal Routing

The Delta Steerer uses a distinctive tapered shape that creates space for internal brake-hose routing without requiring a particularly bulky round steerer and oversized headset.

Potential benefits include:

  • Reduced frontal area
  • Cleaner cable integration
  • Narrower head-tube profile
  • Improved aerodynamic continuity
  • Uncluttered cockpit appearance

The compromise is increased workshop complexity. Headset-bearing replacement and cockpit changes may require movement or disconnection of hydraulic hoses.

A professional bike fit should be completed before the fork steerer is cut or the final cockpit position is established.

SystemBar R-One Carbon Cockpit
  • The SystemBar R-One integrates the handlebar and stem into a single full-carbon component.
  • It reduces the number of separate clamps and provides a smooth aerodynamic transition into the frame. Internal routing keeps the front end clean and protects the brake hoses from external contamination or accidental contact.
  • The integrated design limits independent stem-length and handlebar-width adjustments. Replacing the cockpit can also require brake-hose work, making accurate initial sizing particularly important.

SRAM Force XPLR AXS 13-Speed

SRAM Force XPLR AXS uses wireless shift commands and a Full-Mount rear derailleur designed around a dedicated 13-speed gravel cassette.

The 10-46T range gives the drivetrain broad terrain coverage while retaining finer progression than many traditional wide-range gravel systems.

Some benefits include:

  • Wireless electronic shifting
  • No mechanical shift cables
  • Programmable controls
  • Removable derailleur battery
  • Integrated power measurement
  • Full-Mount derailleur construction
  • Broad 460% cassette range
  • Simplified single-chainring operation

The drivetrain requires an SRAM XDR freehub and compatible 13-speed chain, cassette and derailleur components.

BSA Threaded Bottom Bracket

The BSA 68mm threaded bottom bracket is widely supported by most workshops.

Compared with certain press-fit systems, it provides:

  • Straightforward replacement
  • Broad parts availability
  • Familiar installation procedures
  • Reduced dependence on frame-bearing tolerances
  • Easier long-term servicing

This is particularly valuable on a gravel bike exposed to water, dust, fine grit and regular washing.

Universal Derailleur Hanger

  • The frame uses the Universal Derailleur Hanger standard.
  • The SRAM Full-Mount rear derailleur attaches through this interface without relying on a conventional replaceable hanger during normal operation.
  • The standard also simplifies compatibility with alternative drivetrains that use a conventional Universal Derailleur Hanger arrangement.

Large Tyre Clearance

The Cannondale SuperX 1 accepts measured tyres up to 48mm at the frame and 51mm at the fork while retaining at least 4mm of surrounding clearance.

This allows the bicycle to be adapted for:

  • Smooth gravel racing
  • Hardpack
  • Corrugations
  • Loose climbing
  • Sand
  • Mud
  • Cyclocross with narrower regulation tyres

(Actual tyre width depends on rim dimensions, tyre construction and inflation pressure. Every completed wheel-and-tyre combination should be measured after inflation)

A nominally 48mm tyre may exceed the frame limit when installed on a wide rim. Additional clearance may also be required for sticky mud and embedded gravel.

Cyclocross Capability

  • The Cannondale SuperX 1 retains useful characteristics from its cyclocross heritage.
  • The flattened top tube is easier to shoulder during run-ups, while the responsive handling suits tight courses, rapid accelerations and repeated braking.
  • Riders can install compatible 33mm cyclocross tyres for competition. The generous frame clearance also helps prevent mud from immediately clogging the bicycle.

Product Care & Warranty Info
Industry & Rider Feedback. A few Comparison Options

GRAN FONDO published its independent Cannondale SuperX review on 11 February 2025 after testing the platform across frozen Black Forest trails, local gravel loops, the French Riviera and Alpine foothills.

  • The review praised the Cannondale SuperX for balancing precise steering with intuitive stability. Testers found it agile through tight corners but sufficiently composed at speed and over rough terrain.
  • Acceleration was another standout quality. The Cannondale SuperX responded sharply during sprints and changes in pace, reflecting its cyclocross heritage, while the aerodynamic frame helped it maintain momentum once up to speed.
  • The frame and D-shaped seatpost received particularly positive feedback for comfort. They worked together to absorb vibration and reduce fatigue without removing the direct response expected from a gravel race bike.

The main criticism concerned the tested cockpit rather than the frame itself. The Cannondale SuperX 1 addresses much of that concern through its premium SystemBar R-One full-carbon integrated cockpit.

Update:

GRAN FONDO returned to the platform on 24 July 2025 as part of a comparative gravel race-bike test. They again highlighted the Cannondale SuperX’s aerodynamic integration, large tyre clearance and cohesive race-focused design, describing it as one of the more forward-thinking bikes in the group.
