The Garbaruk GEN2.0 12-Speed Gravel Cassette 10-48T is a lightweight, precision-machined SRAM XPLR upgrade offering a broader 480% gear range, direct-fit compatibility and easier climbing for Australian gravel roads, steep fire trails and mixed-surface adventures.

Garbaruk GEN2.0 12-Speed Gravel Cassette Features

Wide 10-48T gearing expands SRAM XPLR’s climbing capability without requiring a replacement derailleur cage.
Lightweight construction uses 11 heat-treated steel sprockets and a 7075-T651 aluminium 48T sprocket.
GEN2.0 shift ramps and revised tooth profiles support smoother, quieter and more predictable gear changes.
Directly compatible with SRAM Apex XPLR AXS, Rival XPLR AXS and Force XPLR AXS 12-speed derailleurs.
SRAM XD and XDR freehub compatibility makes it suitable for a wide selection of modern gravel wheelsets.

The Garbaruk GEN2.0 12-Speed Gravel Cassette is built around a two-material construction that balances low weight with drivetrain durability. Its first 11 sprockets are CNC-machined from a single piece of heat-treated chromoly steel, creating a rigid monoblock structure with minimal movement between the individual gears.

The largest 48T sprocket is machined separately from 7075-T651 aluminium alloy. This high-strength aluminium helps reduce weight at the widest point of the cassette while providing the structural stiffness needed for climbing under load. The aluminium sprocket is securely attached to the steel cassette body and can be colour-matched with other Garbaruk drivetrain components.

GEN2.0 development includes repositioned shift ramps that guide the chain more predictably from one sprocket to the next. Revised tooth profiles improve chain control during loaded shifts, while carefully positioned micro-chamfers reduce friction and drivetrain noise.

Additional clearance between selected sections of the cassette assists with mud and debris evacuation. This is useful on Australian gravel roads and trails where fine dust, sand, clay and loose surface material can quickly contaminate the drivetrain.

The updated tooth design also improves chain security when coasting or backpedalling. While correct derailleur adjustment remains important, the GEN2.0 design is intended to be less sensitive to minor indexing variations than earlier Garbaruk cassette generations.

Garbaruk develops and manufactures its drivetrain components at its facility near Kraków, Poland. Its cassette production involves in-house CNC machining, finishing and quality-control processes.

Direct-fit XPLR derailleur capacity: Up to 48T for the compatible SRAM Apex, Rival and Force XPLR AXS derailleurs specified by Garbaruk

The cassette is not designed for Shimano HG or Micro Spline freehub bodies. Riders with an XDR road or gravel freehub must fit the supplied 1.8mm spacer behind the cassette.

A longer chain may be required when replacing a standard 10-44T XPLR cassette, particularly if the existing chain was previously cut close to its minimum usable length. Chain length, derailleur clearance and hanger alignment should be checked during installation.

The Garbaruk GEN2.0 12-Speed Gravel Cassette 10-48T is ideal for gravel riders who enjoy the simplicity and clean shifting of SRAM XPLR but regularly encounter climbs that make a standard 10-44T cassette feel limiting.

Regular chain-wear inspection is especially important with a precision-machined cassette. An excessively worn chain places additional load on the sprocket teeth and can shorten cassette life. Replacing the chain before it becomes severely elongated is generally considerably less expensive than replacing both components.

Installation should include:

Confirmation of XD or XDR freehub compatibility
Installation of the supplied 1.8mm spacer on an XDR freehub
Verification of derailleur compatibility
Accurate derailleur-hanger alignment
Correct chain sizing for the 48T sprocket
Appropriate chain-gap adjustment
Fine indexing across all 12 gears
A complete load and backpedalling test

Garbaruk provides a two-year warranty from the shipping date for eligible manufacturing defects.

Bikerumor examined Garbaruk’s GEN2.0 cassette platform in an article published on 14 October 2025. The publication highlighted Garbaruk’s ability to CNC-machine lightweight cassette bodies from hardened steel at its Polish facility while retaining competitive pricing against premium original-equipment cassettes.

Although the Bikerumor article covered the broader GEN2.0 range rather than conducting a long-term laboratory test of this exact 10-48T gravel cassette, it identified several changes directly relevant to the gravel model. These included revised shift ramps, updated tooth profiles, improved mud clearance, quieter running and more secure chain engagement while coasting or backpedalling. It also specifically noted that Garbaruk’s expanded gravel gearing allows existing 12-speed XPLR owners to access a larger climbing sprocket without replacing the complete drivetrain.
