Carbon crankarm construction

The SRAM Force XPLR E1 Wide Crankset uses carbon crankarms to achieve a strong stiffness-to-weight balance. Strategic carbon placement reinforces high-load areas around the pedal and spindle interfaces while allowing unnecessary mass to be removed elsewhere.

This construction provides a direct feel during seated climbing, standing acceleration and high-cadence gravel racing. It also brings the weight and visual quality of a premium carbon crankset into a more attainable category than SRAM RED XPLR.

The gloss finish gives the crankset a refined appearance, but the carbon structure should be inspected following significant pedal strikes, crashes or transport damage.

DUB Wide architecture

The DUB Wide spindle positions the chainring further outboard than a standard SRAM road crankset, creating a 47.5mm chainline.

The wider arrangement can provide:

  • Increased clearance around wide gravel tyres
  • More space beside sculpted carbon chainstays
  • Suitable alignment for longer-chainstay XPLR frames
  • Compatibility with modern gravel rear triangles

160mm crankarms

165mm crankarms

The 165mm version is increasingly popular among road and gravel racers. It can reduce peak hip and knee flexion while providing extra clearance through rocky corners, deep ruts and off-camber sections.

170mm crankarms

The 170mm length provides a versatile middle ground for a broad range of riders. It combines familiar pedalling characteristics with slightly greater clearance than longer crankarms.

172.5mm crankarms

The 172.5mm option remains a traditional choice for medium-to-tall riders whose existing fit, mobility and cadence preferences suit a moderately long crank.

175mm crankarms

The 175mm version suits riders whose leg proportions and established position favour a larger pedal circle. Rider height alone should not determine whether this length is appropriate.

Bike-fit considerations

Changing crank length alters the upper and lower positions of the pedal stroke. When moving to a shorter crank, saddle height generally needs to increase by approximately the same amount as the reduction in crank length.

Industry Feedback, Rider Reviews and our own opinion

Gravel Cyclist introduced the SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 platform on 17 June 2025 and highlighted the crankset’s carbon construction, simplified 1x operation and wide range of standard and aero chainrings. The publication positioned Force as a lower-cost route into SRAM’s latest 13-speed gravel ecosystem while retaining much of the performance found in RED XPLR.

BIKEPACKING.com published its first-look assessment of SRAM Force XPLR AXS in June 2025. The coverage focused on the platform’s robust Full Mount rear derailleur, broad 10-46T gearing and gravel-specific component integration. The Force crankset complemented this drivetrain with carbon arms, Wide DUB clearance and a direct power-meter upgrade path.
