SES aerodynamic development

The SES name identifies ENVE’s Smart ENVE System aerodynamic product family. The upper section of the ENVE SES AR IN-Route Carbon Handlebar was developed using computational fluid dynamics and validated through wind-tunnel testing.

Its wing-shaped profile presents a cleaner leading edge to the airflow than a conventional round road handlebar. Concealed brake hoses and electronic-shifting wires can further reduce cockpit clutter when the bar is paired with a compatible stem and headset system. Compound-flared drops

Instead of rotating the entire drop outward, ENVE uses a compound shape that keeps the brake hoods in a relatively conventional road position before widening the lower section. This allows the rider to maintain a compact position on the hoods while gaining extra leverage in the drops.

The difference between the actual hood and drop measurements is approximately 47 mm. This provides a more stable base for descending, cornering and rough-surface riding without creating the extremely wide everyday position associated with some dedicated gravel handlebars.

Tuned carbon construction

The carbon laminate is designed to provide responsive steering and dependable support during sprinting while filtering some of the high-frequency vibration transmitted through the fork and stem.

This controlled compliance is particularly relevant on coarse Australian chip-seal and weathered country roads. It cannot compensate for unsuitable tyre pressure or an incorrect bike fit, but it can contribute to a less fatiguing cockpit during long rides.

Compact geometry

The 76 mm reach brings the controls relatively close to the tops, while the 127 mm drop makes the lower position more accessible than a traditional deep-drop race handlebar. Riders can therefore use the drops more frequently during fast bunch rides, headwinds and descending without adopting an unnecessarily extreme position.

IN-Route integration

Internal ports allow hoses and compatible wires to pass through the handlebar and into an approved stem and headset arrangement. The ENVE IN-Route Aero Road Stem provides the most direct integration, although the handlebar may also work with selected integrated systems from other manufacturers.
