Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

Tri-Laminate Performance Construction

Nastro Piloti uses a layered construction rather than a basic single-density foam. Each layer is tuned for a specific purpose: grip, rebound, damping and secure installation.

SILCAthane Grip Surface

The SILCAthane outer surface is designed to provide strong hand traction in both wet and dry conditions. It is especially useful for riders who climb, sprint, descend or ride in humid summer conditions where hand security matters.

SILCAlon Advanced Foam Layer

The SILCAlon layer is designed to improve cushioning without adding excessive thickness. This gives riders a firm, direct grip on the bars while still helping reduce vibration from rough roads.

3M Visco-Elastic Adhesive

The adhesive layer helps hold the tape in place while adding vibration damping. It is designed to reduce road buzz without making the cockpit feel soft or vague.

Dual-Tread Grip Texture

The debossed surface pattern can be wrapped in different directions to tune grip feel. Riders can choose a cleaner high-grip orientation or a more aggressive maximum-grip setup depending on conditions and personal preference.

Butterfly Lever Clamp Covers

The included butterfly-shaped covers help fill the area behind the brake hoods without creating bulky overlap. This gives a cleaner, more comfortable transition around the shifters.

Expanding Bar-End Plugs

The premium expanding plugs offer a more secure and refined finish than basic push-in plastic plugs, helping keep the bar ends tidy and secure.

Product Care & Warranty Info

Product Care

  • Clean gently with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Avoid harsh degreasers, solvents or abrasive brushes.
  • Wipe down after hot, sweaty or wet rides.
  • Allow tape to dry naturally after rain or washing.
  • Replace tape if it becomes torn, loose, slippery or heavily worn.
  • Check bar plugs regularly to ensure they remain secure.
  • Avoid overstretching during installation.
  • Re-wrap if tape shifts, bunches or lifts near the hoods.
  • Inspect handlebars whenever old tape is removed.
  • Replace bar tape regularly as part of routine bike servicing.

Warranty Information

  • Silca bar tape includes a 1-year crash replacement program under current Silca terms.
  • Manufacturer defect coverage is generally listed for 2 years.
  • Normal wear, cosmetic wear, poor installation, cuts, contamination, adhesive wear and crash damage outside program conditions are generally not covered as standard warranty defects.
  • Professional installation is recommended for correct tension, clean finish and long-term security.

For Brisbane and Queensland riders, we recommend replacing bar tape regularly as part of a road bike or gravel bike service, especially if riding in heat, humidity, high-sweat conditions, rain or rough roads. Fresh bar tape improves comfort, control, hygiene and the overall feel of the bike.
Industry & Rider Feedback. A few Comparison Options

Riding Gravel, September 2019 reviewed Silca Nastro Piloti and highlighted its thin 1.85mm profile, 2.5mm-equivalent cushioning claim, dual-direction grip texture and premium finishing kit. The review described it as an interesting high-performance tape for riders wanting a balance of comfort, grip and direct bar feel.

Creaky Bottom Bracket, June 2020 reviewed Nastro Piloti and praised its wet-weather grip, vibration damping, butterfly clamp covers and overall quality. The review noted that it quickly became a favourite compared with other premium tapes, particularly because it delivered comfort without bulk.

Seven Day Cyclist, August 2026 reviewed Silca Nastro Piloti and described it as a low-bulk, lightweight and very grippy premium tape with surprising comfort for its thickness. The review positioned it as a strong option for road, audax and performance builds, while suggesting thicker tape may suit harsher gravel use.

Rider Feedback & Community Sentiment

Rider feedback around Silca Nastro Piloti is generally very positive, especially from cyclists who want a premium performance feel rather than a thick comfort-first wrap.

Common positive rider comments include:

  • Excellent grip in dry and damp conditions
  • Thin but still surprisingly comfortable
  • Direct road feel without excessive bar bulk
  • Durable surface compared with many softer tapes
  • Great premium finish and clean cockpit look
  • Quality bar plugs and finishing tape
  • Works well for road, cyclocross and trainer bikes
  • Strong choice for riders who prefer a firm, connected feel

Some riders note that it is less plush than thicker 3mm or 3.5mm tapes, so riders with sensitive hands or heavy gravel use may prefer a more cushioned option.
