Two-piece rotor construction

The SRAM Paceline X uses a stainless-steel braking track attached to a lightweight aluminium carrier. Stainless steel provides the wear resistance and friction surface required for hydraulic disc braking, while aluminium removes weight from the central section and adds structural support.

Compared with a basic one-piece steel rotor, this construction creates a more premium balance of braking consistency, stiffness and low weight. It is particularly appropriate for lightweight road bikes where riders want dependable stopping performance without adding unnecessary rotating mass.

Paceline brake track

The carefully shaped Paceline ventilation pattern is designed to provide smooth pad contact and quiet operation. The arrangement of the openings helps limit the pulsing, humming and high-frequency noise that can occur when brake pads pass over a more aggressive rotor pattern.

No road disc brake can be guaranteed silent in every situation. Contamination, glazing, poor caliper alignment and wet weather can still cause noise, but the Paceline track is designed to reduce vibration when the brake system is correctly installed and bedded in.

Lightweight aluminium carrier

The Paceline X uses SRAM’s lightest aluminium rotor carrier. Removing weight from the carrier reduces overall wheel-system mass while retaining the stable mounting platform expected from a premium two-piece road rotor.

The weight difference will be subtle during normal riding, but it complements a lightweight wheelset, SRAM RED AXS groupset or performance road bike build where multiple small component savings contribute to a lower complete-bike weight.

140mm version

The 140mm SRAM Paceline X is the lighter and more compact option. It is commonly selected for the rear wheel of a road race bike or for lighter riders using 140mm rotors at both ends.

160mm version

The 160mm SRAM Paceline X provides greater braking leverage and more surface area for handling heat. It is generally the preferred front rotor size for Australian riders and is also a sensible rear option for heavier cyclists, loaded bikes and mountainous routes.

The 160mm size is particularly well suited to Australian conditions, where long descents, high summer temperatures and fast bunch rides can place considerable thermal load on road brakes, while the 140mm version works well for lighter riders and weight-conscious rear-wheel setups. Its stainless-steel braking surface is appropriate for coastal humidity, occasional rain and everyday road grime, provided it is kept clean and inspected regularly.

The most important context is that a rotor cannot create excellent braking in isolation. Lever geometry, caliper stiffness, pad compound, rotor size, bedding procedure and system alignment all influence the final result. The Paceline X is therefore best understood as a lightweight and well-refined part of SRAM’s complete road hydraulic braking system.

Independent measured data has placed the 160mm rotor at approximately 130 to 131 grams, aligning closely with SRAM’s 280-gram claimed weight for two 160mm rotors and their lockrings. A 140mm example has been measured at approximately 108 grams, plus around 7 grams for an internal-spline lockring

SRAM generally provides the original owner with a two-year limited warranty against qualifying defects in materials or workmanship. Proof of purchase is normally required, and claims should be made through the original retailer or an authorised SRAM service location.

Normal braking-surface wear, contamination, incorrect installation, crash damage, overheating caused by misuse and damage from incompatible components are generally excluded.
