  • The lube should be left to dry or cure before riding, ideally overnight.
  • Over-application can leave excess residue, so apply carefully to each roller and allow it to penetrate.
  • Reapply when drivetrain noise increases or after heavy wet-weather riding.
Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

Wax-Based Long-Life Formula

Smoove uses a wax-based lubricant system designed to penetrate the chain rollers, dry into place and provide long-lasting protection. This helps reduce metal-on-metal wear between chain pins, rollers and plates.

Low-Friction Drivetrain Performance

The formula is designed to reduce friction across the chain, cassette and chainrings. A properly lubricated chain improves pedalling efficiency, shifting smoothness and drivetrain feel, especially on long rides and high-cadence efforts.

Self-Cleansing Behaviour

Smoove is designed to help reduce the build-up of black, oily grime commonly associated with traditional wet lubes. Dirt and contaminants tend to sit closer to the outer wax layer rather than forming a deep grinding paste inside the chain.

Biodegradable and Solvent-Free

The biodegradable, solvent-free formulation is a strong advantage for riders who clean and maintain bikes regularly at home. It is a more environmentally conscious choice than many traditional petroleum-heavy lubes.

Luberetta Precision Applicator

The updated Luberetta applicator cap helps place lube more accurately onto the chain rollers. This reduces waste, mess and excess lube on side plates, jockey wheels, chainrings and floors.

Wet and Dry Versatility

Unlike many lubes that are strictly dry-condition or wet-condition specific, Smoove is positioned as a universal chain lube. It suits riders who want one bottle for road, gravel, MTB and commuter use without changing lube every time the weather changes.

Product Care & Warranty Info

Product Care

  • Shake bottle before use.
  • Apply only to a clean and dry chain for best results.
  • Allow the lube to dry or cure before riding.
  • Wipe excess from outer chain plates after application.
  • Reapply when chain noise increases.
  • Clean heavy build-up from jockey wheels, chainrings and cassette as needed.
  • Avoid over-applying, as excess lube can attract dirt.
  • Store bottle sealed and upright.
  • Do not apply directly before a ride if maximum durability is required.
  • Use a suitable drivetrain cleaner when fully resetting the chain.

Warranty Information

  • Warranty coverage is subject to Smoove or retailer terms and conditions.
  • Warranty generally applies to manufacturing or packaging defects.
  • Normal use, contamination, incorrect application, poor chain preparation, spillage, clogged applicators from dried lube and storage damage are generally not covered.
  • Drivetrain performance depends on chain cleanliness, application technique, curing time, weather, terrain and maintenance habits.
  • Professional drivetrain cleaning and lubrication are recommended if the chain is heavily contaminated or noisy.
Industry & Rider Feedback. A few Comparison Options

Road.cc, September 2017 reviewed Smoove Universal Chain Lube and gave it a strong rating, praising its long-lasting performance, smooth drivetrain feel and ability to deliver on its durability claims when applied to a properly cleaned chain.

Off-road.cc, October 2021 reviewed Smoove Universal Chain Lube and described it as a genuinely versatile all-weather lube that lasts a long time, stays smooth and works across mixed mountain bike and gravel conditions.

Seven Day Cyclist, July and August 2026 published long-term winter and summer test updates, noting strong durability, clean running and impressive mileage from a single application, particularly in moderate to dry riding conditions.

Rider Feedback & Community Sentiment

Rider feedback around Smoove Universal Chain Lube is generally very positive, especially from cyclists who want a cleaner and longer-lasting alternative to traditional wet lubes.

Common positive rider comments include:

  • Lasts much longer than many standard dry lubes
  • Keeps the drivetrain cleaner than traditional wet oil
  • Works well for road, gravel and MTB use
  • Quiet chain feel after curing properly
  • Good value because one application lasts a long time
  • Less black grime on chain and cassette
  • Great option for bikepacking and long rides
  • Precision applicator helps reduce mess

Some riders note that Smoove needs proper chain preparation and curing time. If applied to a dirty chain or ridden too soon after application, performance and cleanliness may be reduced.
