Wilier Highlights: Tech, Riders & Latest Lineup

Wilier Triestina might have well over a century of Italian cycling heritage under its belt, but they definitely aren’t just coasting on nostalgia and pretty paint jobs. Their approach to R&D blends Italian design flair with the less glamorous business of simulations, prototypes and repeated testing.

Recently, Wilier has leaned heavily into Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and exhaustive wind tunnel testing to carve out aero gains. The new aero tube profiles and clever integrated "Aerokit" water bottle systems on their latest frames have been shown to slash aerodynamic drag by double-digit percentages. But aero isn't everything, and what truly differentiates Wilier from the pack is their obsession with ride quality. Instead of building bone-rattlingly stiff torture devices just to win a spreadsheet war, Wilier uses an "Active Moulding" process with foam polymers to fine-tune the carbon layup and shave weight without creating a harsh ride.

When it comes to proving their cutting-edge tech, Wilier doesn’t just crunch numbers in a sterile lab—they hand their prototypes over to the pros and essentially say, “Go try and break this.” Their engagement with top-tier athletes is phenomenal. On the road, they’ve partnered with heavyweights like Astana Qazaqstan, famously supplying the Filante SLR that Mark Cavendish rode to his historic, record-breaking 35th Tour de France stage win in 2024.

The connection to recreational cycling comes through ambassador gatherings, guided experiences and small-group riding programmes. One example is Wilier’s Girona Gravel Epic, developed with Eat Sleep Cycle around the Rave SLR ID2 and The Traka. With groups limited to eight to twelve cyclists, it places ordinary riders on the same terrain and equipment culture that shapes elite gravel racing. Most participants will not trouble a professional results sheet, but they can still benefit from the handling, tyre clearance and reliability learned through competition.

What's New and Noteworthy?

If you're hunting for a road machine, the newly updated Filante SLR ID2 handles the aero-race duties with extreme composure, while the ultra-light Verticale SLR (weighing around 6.8kg fully built) is a dedicated climber's dream. For the mixed-surface crowd, the Rave SLR ID2 is absolutely dominating the gravel conversation.

Riders planning heavily loaded touring may prefer Wilier’s more adventure-focused Adlar, but the Rave is the stronger option when speed and lively handling take priority.
