KingPin Rear Compliance
KingPin is Cannondale’s lightweight gravel-specific rear-compliance system. A thru-axle pivot at the seat tube permits controlled flex through the rear triangle, seat tube and seatpost, creating up to 30mm of movement without a conventional shock or multi-link suspension arrangement.
The movement is designed to reduce the repeated impacts caused by corrugations, roots, embedded stones and broken road surfaces. It remains laterally stiff for pedalling and cornering, allowing the Cannondale Topstone Carbon LTD Di2 to retain the quick response expected from a premium carbon gravel bike.
KingPin does not feel like conventional mountain-bike suspension. The movement is deliberately subtle, working beneath the rider without obvious bobbing. Its advantages become more apparent over long rides, where reduced vibration can help preserve comfort and concentration.
The system can also help the rear tyre follow uneven ground more closely. Professional long-term testing has reported improved seated traction on loose climbs, allowing riders to maintain smoother power delivery rather than repeatedly losing rear-wheel grip.
Proportional Response Construction
Cannondale adjusts the carbon lay-up and selected geometry measurements for each frame size. This Proportional Response approach is intended to give smaller and larger riders a consistent relationship between frame stiffness, compliance and KingPin movement.
Instead of simply enlarging or shrinking one central design, Cannondale tunes each size around the forces likely to be generated by its intended rider. This allows the frame and compliance system to work more naturally across the complete size range.
Shimano GRX RX825 Di2
Shimano GRX RX825 Di2 replaces conventional mechanical shift cables with electronic signals. This eliminates cable stretch, contaminated housing and friction as potential causes of deteriorating shift quality.
Gear changes require only a light button press, which can be particularly useful when wearing full-finger gloves, riding over rough ground or shifting repeatedly during a long event.
The rear derailleur incorporates Shimano’s Shadow RD+ clutch mechanism. This controls chain movement over rough surfaces, reducing noise and improving chain security across corrugations, potholes and broken gravel.
The 2x12 layout is a key point of difference. Many modern gravel bikes use a single chainring, but the Cannondale Topstone Carbon LTD Di2 retains two chainrings to provide closer gear spacing and stronger high-speed performance.
This makes it especially well suited to Australian riders whose gravel routes include long sealed-road approaches, fast bunch sections and rolling terrain where maintaining cadence matters more than having the lowest possible climbing gear.
Reserve 40|44 GR Carbon Wheels
The Reserve wheelset uses a shallower 40mm front rim and a deeper 44mm rear rim. The front profile supports predictable steering and crosswind stability, while the deeper rear aims to deliver a greater aerodynamic benefit.
Carbon construction helps reduce rotating mass while providing the lateral stiffness required for responsive acceleration and accurate cornering.
DT Swiss 240 hubs are a genuine premium inclusion, with strong parts support and an established reputation for low weight, efficient engagement and straightforward servicing.
StashPort and StashBag
StashPort creates a concealed storage compartment inside the downtube, accessed beneath the bottle cage. The included StashBag keeps compact repair equipment securely organised.
Suitable contents may include:
- Spare inner tube
- Tyre levers
- Compact inflator
- Tubeless repair tool
- Small multitool
- Chain link
- Emergency spares
Integrated storage keeps essential repair equipment attached to the bike and protected from trail debris. It also leaves jersey pockets and exterior luggage space available for food, clothing and water.
OutFront Steering Geometry
Cannondale’s OutFront Steering Geometry combines a comparatively relaxed head angle with a long 55mm fork offset.
This arrangement is designed to provide sure-footed handling on fast, loose descents while retaining responsive steering through tighter corners and on sealed roads.
The result is a stable but engaging ride character. The Cannondale Topstone Carbon LTD Di2 feels confident when the terrain deteriorates without becoming slow or reluctant to change direction.
Layered Comfort
The Cannondale Topstone Carbon LTD Di2 does not rely on one component to create comfort. KingPin, the SAVE carbon seatpost, Easton carbon handlebar and 45mm tyres each manage different types of vibration and impact.
The carbon handlebar helps moderate high-frequency vibration at the hands, while its 16-degree flare creates more leverage and control in the drops. The SAVE seatpost contributes controlled flex beneath the saddle, complementing the movement provided by KingPin.
This layered approach helps the bike remain efficient and responsive rather than achieving comfort through an excessively flexible frame or overly soft suspension setup.
Threaded Bottom Bracket and Universal Derailleur Hanger
A 68mm BSA threaded bottom bracket makes bearing replacement relatively straightforward and is widely supported by Australian bike workshops.
The Universal Derailleur Hanger is another valuable ownership feature. A bent hanger can compromise shifting accuracy, particularly across a modern 12-speed cassette, but the UDH standard is easier to source than many proprietary alternatives.
