Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

Patented Plug Repair System

The Dynaplug repair system combines a viscoelastic rubber plug with a small, non-abrasive brass tip. The plug is temporarily housed inside a narrow insertion tube, allowing it to be pushed directly through the puncture without first enlarging the hole with a separate reaming tool.

When the insertion tube is withdrawn, the brass tip remains inside the tyre and helps anchor the rubber plug against the inner casing. The plug material fills the puncture channel and works with the existing tubeless sealant to restore air retention.

No separate glue, adhesive or vulcanising solution is required. This makes the process cleaner and faster than many conventional tubeless repair strips.

Billet 6061 Aluminium Body

The Dynaplug Micro Pro body is machined from solid 6061 aluminium. This material provides an effective balance of low weight, strength and corrosion resistance while protecting the stored components from damage inside a jersey pocket, saddle bag or hydration pack.

The rounded capsule format has no exposed sharp edges when closed. Threaded body sections keep the repair system compact and help prevent the components from separating while riding.

Hardened Stainless Steel Insertion Tubes

The reusable insertion tubes are manufactured from hardened 304 stainless steel. Their narrow profile guides the plug through the tyre casing while minimising unnecessary enlargement of the puncture.

The tubes can be preloaded before a ride, reducing repair time when a puncture occurs. Keeping the insertion tubes clean is important because dried sealant or contamination can interfere with plug loading and deployment.

Viscoelastic Rubber Plugs

Each plug uses a fibrous, viscoelastic impregnated rubber material designed to conform to the puncture channel. This allows the plug to work with the tyre casing and sealant rather than behaving like a rigid patch.

A single standard plug can seal many common tread punctures. Where a cut is too large for one plug, additional plugs may be inserted alongside the first. Severe sidewall cuts, casing tears and damaged beads still require a tyre boot, inner tube or tyre replacement.

Non-Abrasive Brass Tips

The pointed brass tip helps the plug penetrate tougher road, gravel and mountain bike casings. Its smooth, non-abrasive construction reduces the risk of damaging the rim or tubeless tape if the tyre compresses heavily after the repair.

Self-Contained Tool Storage

The aluminium body organises the insertion tubes, plugs, micro knife, air stopper and cleaning accessory in a single compact system. The air stopper can temporarily slow air loss while the rider prepares a plug, while the micro knife trims excess material after the puncture has been sealed.

Industry Feedback, Rider Reviews and our own opinion

Pinkbike, 10 December 2014

Pinkbike reviewed the Dynaplug Micro Pro as a compact, carefully engineered alternative to basic tubeless repair strips. The review praised its CNC-machined sealed aluminium housing, organised internal storage and preloaded stainless steel insertion tubes.

The reviewer found the system straightforward to deploy and appreciated that the pointed plug could be inserted without an additional reaming step. The brass-tipped plug was seen as an intelligent design because it helped anchor the repair inside the tyre without introducing a sharp, abrasive component near the rim.

The main limitation was price. The Dynaplug Micro Pro cost considerably more than basic repair strips, but Pinkbike considered its superior packaging, reusable construction and fast deployment meaningful advantages for serious riders.

BIKEPACKING.com, 26 October 2017

BIKEPACKING.com described the Dynaplug Micro Pro as an indispensable addition to a proper bikepacking repair kit. After comparing it with conventional strip-style plugs, the reviewer found the Dynaplug system cleaner, quicker and less frustrating to use.

The compact tool had been carried for months before being required during a remote trip, demonstrating one of its most important qualities: it can remain packed and ready without taking up meaningful luggage space. The ability to carry spare preloaded plugs also made it suitable for riders travelling through isolated terrain where a single puncture should not end a trip.

Flow Mountain Bike, 6 March 2023

Flow Mountain Bike’s broader assessment of Dynaplug repair systems found them easier to insert and more dependable than many traditional tubeless plugs. The publication reported that several repaired tyres remained usable until their tread was fully worn, demonstrating that a successful plug can provide more than a temporary trailside solution.

The review praised Dynaplug’s high-quality metal construction and choice of narrow or larger plug options. Its primary criticism was cost, although the potential to save an otherwise usable tubeless tyre was considered an important offset.

Bike Test Reviews, updated 31 July 2026

Bike Test Reviews gave the Dynaplug Micro Pro a top overall rating after testing it on a damaged mountain bike tyre. The review highlighted its premium 6061 aluminium housing, stainless steel tools and self-contained storage. It also valued the absence of glue, messy adhesives or a separate reaming stage.
