Shimano Di2 electronic shifting
A compact electric motor moves the chain guide between the inner and outer chainrings. Electronic control produces repeatable movement without relying on cable tension, reducing the effect of cable stretch, contamination and housing friction on front-shift quality.
Programmed automatic trim
The derailleur communicates with the rest of the Di2 system and automatically adjusts its chain-guide position as the rider changes rear gears. This helps maintain chain clearance across the cassette, reducing distracting chain rub and removing the need for manual trim inputs commonly required with mechanical front shifting.
Synchronized Shift
Three operating approaches are available:
- Manual mode gives the rider direct control over front and rear shifts.
- Semi-Synchronized Shift automatically compensates with one or more rear shifts after the rider changes chainrings, helping reduce the sudden cadence change.
- Full Synchronized Shift lets the system initiate front shifts at configurable points as the rider progresses through the cassette.
Shift behaviour can be customised through Shimano E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist. Full Synchronized Shift does not monitor road speed or cadence to choose gears independently. It follows defined shift points based on drivetrain position.
Semi-wireless architecture
The R7150 system combines wireless shift controls with wired connections between the internal battery and both derailleurs. This arrangement produces a clean handlebar area while giving the higher-power derailleur motors a stable central power source.
