Spider-based power measurement

The power meter measures torque at the spider, where power from both crankarms enters the chainring. It combines measured torque with cadence to calculate total rider power in watts.

Unlike a basic single-sided crank sensor that measures one leg and doubles the value, the spider receives the combined output generated through both crankarms. It also reports a calculated left-to-right power balance.

Bikerumor published a detailed first-ride assessment of the SRAM RED XPLR AXS system in August 2024. The publication highlighted the new Thread Mount power-meter crankset as a meaningful serviceability improvement, particularly because chainrings could be replaced without discarding the power-meter spider.
