Choosing the correct length

An 80 or 90 mm stem can provide a more compact riding position and faster-feeling steering. These sizes may suit smaller riders, compact frame geometries, gravel bikes or cyclists seeking to reduce an overly stretched position.

A 100 or 110 mm stem represents a common performance-road range. These lengths generally balance cockpit reach, front-wheel loading and controlled steering, although the correct measurement depends entirely on the rider and frame geometry.

A 120 to 140 mm stem creates a longer cockpit and places more weight over the front wheel. These sizes are most relevant to riders with a professionally established race position or bicycles with relatively short frame reach.

The Cannondale C1 Conceal Alloy Stem is best suited to Australian road and gravel riders who want a cleaner cockpit without committing to the cost or fixed geometry of a one-piece carbon system.

Installing a carbon handlebar

The stem uses a 31.8 mm clamp and may be compatible with suitable carbon handlebars. Confirm the handlebar manufacturer’s clamping requirements before installation.

Use carbon assembly compound only where specified. Tighten the faceplate bolts gradually and evenly using the correct cross-pattern sequence. Do not exceed the lower of the torque limits stated by the stem and handlebar manufacturers.

Velo’s review of the fourth-generation Cannondale SuperSix EVO praised the complete bike as a highly capable road-racing platform with balanced handling and a notably clean cockpit. The C1 Conceal stem was part of Cannondale’s modular alternative to a one-piece SystemBar, allowing riders to retain integrated routing while choosing a separate handlebar.

This distinction is important for owners who want a performance cockpit but are not ready to lock themselves into fixed integrated dimensions. The modular design allows stem length and handlebar shape to be changed independently while maintaining much of the streamlined appearance expected from a modern race bike.

Zipp Service Course SL Stem

The Zipp Service Course SL is a premium 7075 aluminium stem with a claimed weight of 135 g for the 100 mm, ±6-degree version. It is available in numerous lengths and both ±6 and ±17-degree configurations.
