SRAM AXS wireless shifting

SRAM AXS allows the derailleur to receive shift commands wirelessly from compatible shift-brake controls and auxiliary AXS controllers. Removing the mechanical gear cable eliminates cable stretch, contaminated housing and gradual deterioration in shift-cable movement.

The SRAM AXS app can be used to:

Electronic adjustment cannot correct a bent derailleur hanger. The hanger, rear wheel and cassette must be mechanically aligned before micro-adjustment is used.

Carbon cage construction

The carbon derailleur cage reduces weight while providing the stiffness required to position the pulley wheels accurately beneath the cassette. A stiff cage helps maintain consistent chain alignment during acceleration, climbing and rapid multi-shifts.

Industry Feedback, Rider Reviews and our own opinion

Cyclingnews published its SRAM Force AXS review on 27 June 2025 and concluded that the updated system provided excellent performance while significantly narrowing the gap to flagship RED. The review highlighted broad improvements across the groupset and positioned Force as a strong performance choice for riders who do not need the lightest possible SRAM components.

Cyclist published its review on 11 September 2025 and described the new SRAM Force AXS as a comprehensive update with improved ergonomics and more accurate shifting. The publication noted that the complete 2x groupset with a spider-based power meter was approximately 183 grams lighter than the previous Force generation, while remaining substantially less expensive than RED. It found shifting accurate and dependable, although not always as quiet as the best competing systems.

GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine tested SRAM Force AXS on 17 June 2025 and found that much of RED’s premium technology had successfully moved into the Force range. Its first impressions placed Force exceptionally close to RED in practical performance, with price, materials and weight providing the main points of separation.

Routine cleaning

  • Clean the derailleur with mild bicycle cleaner, water and a soft brush.
  • Remove dirt and old lubricant from the pulley wheels.
  • Avoid directing high-pressure water at the motor housing, pivots, bearings or battery contacts.
  • Dry the derailleur after wet rides.
  • Remove excess chain lubricant before it attracts dust.
  • Avoid harsh solvents around seals and electronic components.

Chain and cassette maintenance

  • Clean and lubricate the SRAM Flattop chain regularly.
  • Select chain lubricant for dry, wet or mixed riding conditions.
  • Remove excess lubricant after application.
  • Check chain wear using a compatible chain-wear gauge.
  • Replace a worn chain before it accelerates cassette and pulley wear.
  • Inspect cassette teeth for hooking or damage.
