The spider measures total torque passing through the crank and combines it with cadence to calculate power. It also reports left-to-right power balance, although this balance figure is derived from the distribution of force through the pedal stroke rather than from two fully independent crank sensors.

Temperature compensation

SRAM states that power accuracy remains within plus or minus 1.5 per cent and is not affected by changing climatic conditions during a ride. Automatic temperature compensation is valuable on Australian rides that begin in cool morning conditions and finish in significantly warmer temperatures.

X-SYNC chain retention

The X-SYNC chainring uses alternating wide and narrow tooth profiles that correspond with the inner and outer chain links. Taller, squared tooth edges engage the chain earlier than conventional triangular teeth, helping retain the chain without a front derailleur.

DUB spindle system

SRAM DUB uses a 28.99mm spindle designed to balance stiffness, bearing size, sealing and compatibility. A frame-specific Road DUB bottom bracket connects the crankset to common threaded, press-fit and T47 road bottom-bracket shells.

DUB does not mean that one bottom bracket fits every bicycle. The correct unit must match both the SRAM Road DUB spindle and the frame’s bottom-bracket standard.

AXS connectivity

The power meter communicates through ANT+ and Bluetooth. ANT+ supports most performance GPS cycling computers, while Bluetooth allows connection to supported phones, indoor training applications and other compatible devices.

Crank-length fitting considerations

Changing crank length alters the position of the pedal at the top and bottom of the stroke. If a rider moves from 172.5mm to 165mm crankarms, the saddle will commonly need to be raised by approximately 7.5mm as an initial adjustment to preserve similar maximum leg extension.

Saddle setback, handlebar drop and cleat position may also need to be reviewed. A professional bike fit is recommended for large changes, especially where the rider is managing hip, knee or lower-back discomfort.

Escape Collective reviewed the SRAM Force XPLR E1 13-speed groupset on 17 June 2025. Reviewer Dave Rome found that SRAM had successfully transferred much of its premium RED XPLR technology into the more attainable Force range. The review highlighted robust chain control, excellent shifting and compatibility with SRAM’s 12-speed Flattop chain despite the 13-speed cassette.
