More Product Details:

Unlike SRAM’s higher-priced spider-based systems, this model measures power from the left leg and doubles that reading to estimate total rider output. This keeps the system lighter, simpler and more affordable, although it does not provide independent left-to-right power measurement.

DUB-PWR spindle-based measurement

The power meter is concealed inside the DUB spindle, protecting the measuring electronics and preserving the clean appearance of the crankset. It measures power produced through the left crankarm and doubles the result to calculate estimated total rider power.

This provides the main data most cyclists need for:

Structured interval training
Functional threshold power testing
Gravel race pacing
Endurance ride intensity
Climbing-effort management
Training-load calculations
Cadence analysis
Post-ride performance review

Because total power is estimated from one leg, riders with a meaningful strength imbalance may see a difference compared with a true dual-sided or spider-based power meter. For most performance-focused recreational riders, however, repeatability from session to session can be more important than identifying the precise contribution of each leg.

Carbon crankarms

The carbon crankarms provide a strong stiffness-to-weight balance while giving the SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 Wide Power Meter Crankset a premium appearance. Their rigid construction supports efficient power transfer during seated climbing, high-cadence gravel racing and short standing accelerations.

Carbon construction also helps limit the weight added by the power-meter electronics. SRAM states that the power-equipped crankset weighs less than 40 grams more than the corresponding standard crankset.

AAA lithium battery system

The power meter uses a replaceable AAA lithium battery rather than a rechargeable proprietary cell. SRAM claims more than 400 hours of riding time, which can cover a full season for many cyclists.

The battery format offers several practical advantages:

Replacement batteries are widely available.
No dedicated charging cable is required.
A spare battery is easy to carry.
Long battery life suits multi-day riding.
Remote-area riders are less dependent on charging access.

IPX7 weather protection

The power meter is rated IPX7, meaning it is designed to withstand immersion in water up to one metre for 30 minutes under the relevant test conditions.

This makes it well suited to wet gravel races, creek crossings, muddy winter rides and variable Australian weather. The rating does not mean the crankset should be pressure washed or deliberately left submerged.

Available crank lengths

160mm
165mm
170mm
172.5mm
175mm

160mm and 165mm

Shorter crankarms can suit smaller riders, cyclists with restricted hip mobility and gravel racers seeking additional pedal clearance. They may reduce peak hip and knee flexion while supporting a smoother, higher-cadence pedalling style.

170mm

The 170mm option provides a versatile middle ground for a broad range of riders. It combines familiar road-bike proportions with slightly more clearance than longer crankarms.

172.5mm and 175mm

These traditional longer sizes suit riders whose leg proportions, flexibility and established fit favour a larger pedal circle. Rider height alone should not determine crank length.

Bike-fit considerations

Moving to a shorter crank changes the pedal’s upper and lower positions. Saddle height generally needs to increase by approximately the same amount as the reduction in crank length.

A crank-length change may also affect:

Saddle setback
Cleat position
Handlebar height
Handlebar reach
Hip angle
Knee movement
Pedalling cadence
Pedal clearance
Standing climbing position
Weight distribution

Professional gravel bike fitting is recommended when changing crank length to address comfort, mobility or racing position.

The SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 Wide Power Meter Crankset is ideal for gravel racers, endurance riders and data-driven cyclists seeking reliable power measurement without the price of a dual-sided SRAM RED system.

Routine cleaning

Clean the crankset with mild bicycle cleaner, clean water and a soft cloth.
Remove mud from around the spindle, chainring and crankarms.
Avoid aggressive solvents and abrasive polishing compounds.
Do not direct high-pressure water at the power-meter battery compartment or bottom-bracket seals.
Dry the crankset after wet rides and creek crossings.
Remove excess chain lubricant before it attracts abrasive dust.

Power-meter maintenance

Use the specified AAA lithium battery.
Replace the battery when a low-charge warning appears.
Clean the battery compartment before fitting the replacement.
Inspect the battery cover and seal for dirt or damage.
Confirm that the cover is fully secured.
Pair the power meter with the SRAM AXS app after installation.
Install firmware updates when recommended.
Perform a zero calibration following installation or battery replacement.
Enter the correct crank length in the cycling computer.
Remove a leaking or damaged battery immediately.

Carbon crankarm inspection

Inspect both crankarms regularly for:

Cracks
Deep scratches
Gouges
Raised carbon fibres
Crushing damage
Heavy heel rub
Pedal-thread damage
Spindle-area damage
Significant impact marks

Stop riding if structural damage is suspected. Carbon crankarms should be professionally assessed rather than repaired with general-purpose adhesives or cosmetic fillers.

Chainring and chain care

Measure chain wear regularly with a compatible tool.
Replace a worn chain before it damages the chainring or cassette.
Clean and lubricate the chain according to riding conditions.
Inspect the X-SYNC teeth after impacts or dropped chains.
Check for bent, chipped, hooked or excessively worn teeth.
Maintain the correct chain length.
Use compatible SRAM drivetrain components.
Recheck chain length when fitting a different chainring size.

Bottom-bracket care

Check for bearing play, roughness and creaking.
Avoid pressure washing around the bearing seals.
Maintain the correct crank preload.
Inspect the DUB Wide spindle during scheduled servicing.
Replace worn or contaminated bearings promptly.
Have recurring noise diagnosed professionally.

Bikerumor reviewed the SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 groupset on 17 June 2025 and found that it delivered performance remarkably close to SRAM RED XPLR at a more attainable price. The publication praised the drivetrain’s precise shifting, gravel durability and broad AXS integration, positioning Force as the practical performance choice for most riders.

GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine tested SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 on 17 June 2025. Its review found that much of the flagship RED platform’s technology had transferred successfully into Force, including updated carbon components, improved braking and adaptable power-meter options.

Flow Mountain Bike published a detailed review on 11 September 2025 after several months of testing. Reviewer Andrew Leitch praised the groupset’s snappy shifting, composed chain control and excellent AXS compatibility. The review also recognised the availability of both spindle-based and spider-based power measurement as a useful advantage for riders with different budgets.

SRAM RED XPLR AXS E1 Wide Spider Power Meter Crankset

SRAM RED XPLR advantages:

Measures combined power at the spider
Reports calculated left-to-right balance
