Correct installation, chain length and derailleur adjustment are essential. The move from a 46T to a 52T largest sprocket may require a longer chain, even when the standard derailleur cage remains compatible.

The Garbaruk GEN2.0 cassette is manufactured around a strength-to-weight-focused hybrid construction. Twelve sprockets are CNC-machined from chromoly steel alloy to provide durability across the gears used most frequently, while the oversized 52T sprocket is made from 7075-T651 aluminium alloy to reduce rotating mass.

GEN2.0 development includes revised tooth shapes, updated shift ramps and refined chain interfaces. These features are designed to produce faster, more controlled shifts under pedalling load while reducing noise and maintaining more secure chain engagement when coasting or backpedalling.

The replaceable 52T aluminium sprocket is an important long-term advantage. It allows the largest sprocket to be replaced separately if necessary rather than automatically discarding the complete cassette. It also provides an opportunity to change the anodised colour as part of a custom bike upgrade.

Garbaruk manufactures its drivetrain components in-house near Kraków, Poland. CNC machining allows material to be removed selectively from low-stress areas, helping the cassette achieve its low weight without relying on aluminium for the complete sprocket cluster.

Verification of XD or XDR freehub compatibility
Installation of the supplied 1.8mm spacer when using an XDR freehub
Correct cassette tightening according to Garbaruk installation instructions
Accurate derailleur hanger alignment
Correct chain length for the 52T sprocket
Derailleur clearance and chain-gap adjustment
Full shifting test across all 13 gears

Garbaruk provides a two-year warranty from the shipping date against qualifying manufacturing defects.

Magazine Bike published a dedicated test of the Garbaruk 13-Speed GEN2.0 XPLR Cassette on 29 July 2026. The publication identified the cassette’s central advantage as expanding SRAM XPLR gearing from 460% to 520% without abandoning the 13-speed platform. Its review highlighted the balance between closely spaced frequently used gears and the significantly lower 52T climbing sprocket, describing the design as especially relevant to mountain gravel riding, ultramarathons and loaded touring.
