Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

Each Garbaruk SRAM XPLR 13-Speed Pulley is CNC-machined from a solid bar of 7075-series aluminium. This high-strength alloy is extensively used in premium bicycle components because it offers an excellent balance of stiffness, durability, machining accuracy and low weight.

The 7075-T651 designation indicates that the aluminium has undergone a controlled heat-treatment and stress-relieving process. This helps the finished pulley retain its intended shape and alignment under drivetrain load, particularly during hard acceleration and shifting on steep gravel climbs.

Garbaruk has developed a dedicated tooth profile for stable Flattop chain engagement. Rather than being a generic oversized jockey-wheel set adapted to numerous derailleur platforms, this version is specifically configured for SRAM XPLR AXS 13-speed drivetrains.

The 14T upper pulley guides the chain across the cassette, while the larger 16T lower pulley controls the return section of the chain and maintains drivetrain tension. Increasing pulley diameter can reduce the amount that each chain link must articulate as it travels around the derailleur, although riders should expect any measurable efficiency improvement to be relatively small in normal real-world riding.

High-quality sealed cartridge bearings protect the pulley mechanism from contamination more effectively than exposed bearing arrangements. This is especially important on Australian gravel bikes exposed to fine dust, sand, wet creek crossings and gritty winter conditions.

The anodised finish adds colour while providing a harder and more corrosion-resistant surface than untreated aluminium. Anodising remains a cosmetic finish as well as a protective treatment, so gradual marking from chain contact and trail use is normal.

Size, Fit, Geometry & Measurements

Speed compatibility: SRAM XPLR AXS 13-speed only

Derailleur compatibility:

  • SRAM RED XPLR AXS 13-speed
  • SRAM Force XPLR AXS 13-speed
  • SRAM Rival XPLR AXS 13-speed

Cage compatibility:

  • Standard SRAM XPLR 13-speed cage
  • Garbaruk XPLR 13-speed cage

Cassette compatibility:

  • Standard SRAM XPLR 13-speed cassette configurations
  • Garbaruk GEN2.0 13-speed XPLR cassette configurations when installed according to Garbaruk’s compatibility and setup instructions

The 13-speed pulley set appears physically similar to Garbaruk’s 12-speed 14T/16T set, but the bearing covers and positioning are different. These differences provide the offset required to align the pulleys correctly inside an XPLR 13-speed cage. The two pulley versions should therefore not be treated as interchangeable.

The pulleys are not a universal fit for older SRAM Eagle, mechanical SRAM, 11-speed SRAM or 12-speed road AXS derailleurs. Garbaruk offers separate pulley configurations for those systems.

Who it is best suited for and where it is best suited

The Garbaruk SRAM XPLR 13-Speed Pulley Set is best suited to gravel riders, bikepackers and custom-bike owners who want a precisely engineered alternative to standard SRAM jockey wheels without replacing their complete derailleur cage.

Product Care & Warranty Info

Do not direct a pressure washer or concentrated water jet at the bearings. High-pressure water can force contamination past the bearing seals and remove internal lubricant.

After cleaning:

  • Rotate each pulley by hand and check for roughness.
  • Check for excessive lateral movement.
  • Inspect the teeth for uneven wear or impact damage.
  • Confirm that both mounting bolts remain secure.
  • Check the derailleur cage for damage or misalignment.
  • Lubricate the chain with a product suitable for local conditions.
  • Remove excess lubricant from the chain’s exterior.

Do not apply heavy chain lubricant directly to the sealed bearings. Excess lubricant around the pulleys attracts abrasive dust and can create a grinding paste around the teeth and bearing covers.

Pulley installation should be completed one wheel at a time to avoid reversing the guide and tension pulleys. Correct orientation, bearing-cover placement and bolt installation are essential.

Installation notes:

  • Pulley bolts are not supplied.
  • Original SRAM bolts may be reused if serviceable.
  • Inspect the threads before reassembly.
  • Follow the appropriate SRAM torque specifications.
  • Do not overtighten the bolts.
  • Confirm free pulley rotation after installation.
  • Recheck derailleur adjustment across all 13 gears.
  • Test chain retention by turning the cranks forwards and backwards.

Garbaruk provides a two-year warranty from the shipping date against eligible manufacturing defects.

Industry & Rider Feedback. A few Comparison Options

Magazine Bike’s SRAM XPLR 13-speed Garbaruk ecosystem coverage, published on 29 July 2026, positively assessed the Polish manufacturer’s machining quality and its development of an integrated XPLR upgrade platform. That platform includes the GEN2.0 cassette, dedicated derailleur cage and compatible pulley wheels.

Original SRAM XPLR AXS 13-Speed Pulley Wheels

Best for: Riders prioritising original-equipment integration and factory replacement simplicity.

Advantages:

  • Original SRAM fit and geometry
  • Designed as part of the complete XPLR derailleur
  • Conservative factory appearance
  • Straightforward choice for restoring an otherwise standard setup
  • No colour coordination required

Considerations:

  • Limited customisation
  • Less distinctive than CNC-machined aluminium alternatives
  • Does not complete the visual theme of a Garbaruk drivetrain
  • Replacement availability may depend on the specific SRAM service kit

CeramicSpeed OSPW Systems

Best for: Performance-focused riders seeking a complete premium oversized cage and pulley system.

Advantages:

  • Extensively marketed around drivetrain efficiency
  • Premium bearing options
  • Complete cage and pulley assembly
  • Strong road-racing and performance reputation

Considerations:

  • Significantly higher purchase price
  • Often replaces the complete cage rather than only the pulleys
  • Exact SRAM XPLR 13-speed compatibility must be confirmed
  • Efficiency gains may be small outside controlled conditions
  • Higher replacement and servicing costs

Kogel Oversized Pulley Systems

Best for: Riders comparing high-end bearing-focused drivetrain upgrades.

Advantages:

  • Premium bearing options
  • Performance-oriented construction
  • Complete oversized systems available for selected drivetrains
  • Strong focus on bearing sealing and serviceability

Considerations:

  • Exact SRAM XPLR 13-speed compatibility must be checked
  • Typically more expensive than a standalone Garbaruk pulley set
  • Colour and configuration availability may be more limited
  • May require a complete cage-system purchase

The Garbaruk set stands out as a relatively focused upgrade. It provides oversized aluminium pulley wheels without automatically requiring the expense or installation complexity of a complete aftermarket cage assembly.
