Compatibility warning

The SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 Rear Derailleur is designed around the matching SRAM XPLR 10-46T 13-speed cassette. It is not intended for the previous 12-speed 10-44T XPLR cassette, standard SRAM road cassettes, SRAM Eagle mountain bike cassettes or T-Type chains.

A bicycle fitted with a conventional UDH hanger is not automatically compatible. The frame itself must be approved for hangerless SRAM Full Mount installation.

Notable Tech, Materials & Construction

Full Mount hangerless construction

The SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 Rear Derailleur attaches to both sides of the frame’s rear dropout and is secured around the rear axle. Removing the conventional derailleur hanger creates a more direct and repeatable relationship between the derailleur, cassette and rear wheel.

Traditional derailleur hangers can bend slightly during a crash, transport incident or impact. Even a small alignment change can reduce shifting accuracy across a closely spaced cassette. Full Mount removes that variable and distributes impact forces around the axle and dropout structure.

This construction is particularly valuable on gravel bikes exposed to rocks, sticks, deep ruts, corrugated roads and rough transport. It does not make the derailleur indestructible, but it is designed to provide greater structural support and more consistent alignment than a lightweight road-style hanger system.

Straight parallelogram architecture

The derailleur moves along a controlled shift path developed specifically for the matching 13-speed cassette. When installed correctly, its normal range of movement cannot carry the derailleur into the rear wheel.

This reduces reliance on conventional limit screws and helps protect the wheel from adjustment-related overshifting. Correct wheel, axle, cassette and derailleur installation remain essential.

Screw-free setup

There are no conventional high-limit, low-limit or B-tension adjustment screws. The Full Mount interface and matched cassette establish the derailleur’s position, while SRAM’s installation sequence determines the remaining setup.

The design reduces the number of mechanical adjustments that can move or be set incorrectly. Correct chain selection, chain length and axle installation are still critical.

Electronic micro-adjustment remains available for fine-tuning shift indexing. It should not be used to compensate for incorrect assembly, a damaged frame interface or incompatible drivetrain parts.

SRAM AXS wireless shifting

SRAM AXS sends shift commands wirelessly from compatible controls to the derailleur. This eliminates mechanical gear-cable stretch, contaminated housing and cable-routing friction.

Carbon and aluminium cage

The derailleur cage combines carbon and aluminium to balance stiffness, weight, durability and replacement cost. This is a more practical construction than the full-carbon cage and ceramic bearings used on the premium SRAM RED XPLR version.

Steel pulley bearings

The pulley wheels use steel bearings, providing a dependable balance of smooth performance, durability and reasonable replacement cost. They are well suited to dusty Australian gravel conditions when cleaned regularly and protected from direct pressure washing.

Rebuildable construction

Selected derailleur components can be replaced rather than requiring the complete electronic derailleur to be discarded after normal wear or repairable damage.

Product Care & Warranty Info

Routine cleaning

  • Wash the derailleur with mild bicycle cleaner, clean water and a soft brush.
  • Remove compacted dirt, grass and gravel dust from the cage and pulley wheels.
  • Do not direct high-pressure water at the motor, bearings, pivots or battery contacts.
  • Dry the component after wet rides and creek crossings.
  • Remove excess chain lubricant before it attracts abrasive material.
  • Avoid aggressive solvents around seals and electronic components.

Chain and cassette care

  • Clean and lubricate the SRAM Road Flattop chain regularly.
  • Select a lubricant suited to dry dust, wet gravel or mixed conditions.
  • Measure chain wear with a compatible chain-checking tool.
  • Replace a worn chain before it accelerates wear on the cassette and chainring.
  • Inspect the cassette following rock strikes or drivetrain impacts.
  • Use an approved SRAM PowerLock when replacing or reconnecting the chain.
  • Do not substitute a SRAM Eagle T-Type chain.

Battery maintenance

  • Charge the battery with an approved SRAM AXS charger.
  • Check battery level before races and remote rides.
  • Carry a charged spare battery on isolated or multi-day routes.
  • Keep the battery contacts clean and dry.
  • Fit the protective cover when the battery is removed.
  • Confirm that the battery latch is fully engaged before riding.
  • Replace swollen, cracked or damaged batteries.
  • Avoid long-term storage with a completely discharged battery.

Crash and impact inspection

After a significant impact, inspect:

  • Full Mount interface
  • Rear axle
  • Frame dropout
  • Carbon and aluminium cage
  • Pulley-wheel alignment
  • Battery latch
  • Motor housing
  • Cassette
  • Chain
  • Rear wheel and spokes

Stop riding if the derailleur is loose, the cage is visibly damaged or the chain can contact the spokes.

Professional bicycle servicing

A professional SRAM XPLR drivetrain service should include:

  • UDH frame-interface inspection
  • Rear-axle inspection
  • Full Mount security check
  • Chain-wear measurement
  • Cassette inspection
  • Chain-length verification
  • Pulley and cage assessment
  • Clutch inspection
  • Battery-contact inspection
  • Firmware update
  • AXS pairing
  • Electronic micro-adjustment
  • Test shifting under load

Warranty

SRAM generally provides the original owner with a two-year limited warranty against qualifying defects in materials or workmanship.

Industry & Rider Feedback. A few Comparison Options

Bikerumor published its SRAM Force XPLR AXS E1 review on 17 June 2025. The publication found that Force delivered performance close to SRAM RED while substantially reducing the purchase price. Its measured derailleur weight was approximately 375 grams without the battery and about 399 grams with a standard AXS battery fitted.

Flow Mountain Bike published a detailed review on 11 September 2025 after extended testing. The reviewer praised the drivetrain’s quick gear changes, accurate indexing, controlled chain behaviour and integration with SRAM’s wider AXS ecosystem. The main limitations were the UDH frame requirement and the dedicated 1x configuration.

Escape Collective compared SRAM Force XPLR E1 with Shimano GRX Di2 on 31 March 2026. The review praised SRAM’s straightforward installation, resistance to traditional bent-hanger problems and secure chain management. It also highlighted SRAM’s broad choice of crank lengths, chainring sizes and compatible power-meter configurations.

Rider and community sentiment

Positive rider feedback commonly focuses on the derailleur’s accurate shifting over rough terrain. Riders appreciate that its position is referenced directly to the rear axle rather than relying on a conventional hanger that may gradually move out of alignment.

Commonly praised qualities include:

  • Fast and accurate shifting across all 13 sprockets
  • Smaller ratio changes through frequently used high-speed gears
  • Stable chain control on corrugated roads
  • Straightforward installation once the Full Mount process is understood
  • Clean wireless operation
  • Easy battery removal and swapping
  • Lower purchase price than SRAM RED XPLR
  • Serviceable and replaceable components
  • Reduced concern about bent derailleur hangers
  • Real-world shifting performance close to the flagship RED version

Some riders prefer the lower weight and premium finish of SRAM RED XPLR, while others consider Force the smarter purchase because the practical shifting difference is relatively small.
