Michelin reports a 35 percent improvement in rolling efficiency compared with the Michelin Pro4 Endurance. The manufacturer’s comparison was conducted using tyres of the same size and pressure on the same wheel. Gum-X Compound

Fit and clearance guidance

Actual inflated width depends on internal rim width, rim profile, tyre pressure and the amount of time the tyre has remained inflated. A nominal 32mm tyre may measure wider than 32mm when mounted to a modern wide-internal road rim.

Road.cc awarded the Michelin Pro5 TLR Competition Line a score of 8 out of 10 and described it as an impressive all-round road tyre once installed.

The main criticism concerned its tight fit during installation. The review concluded that it did not deliver quite the same outright performance as the most race-focused Continental Grand Prix 5000 or Schwalbe Pro One models, but performed particularly well as a fast, dependable and versatile everyday road tyre.

Testing of the 28mm model recorded 12.5 watts of rolling resistance, 46 puncture-resistance points and 74 wet-grip points. It received a score of 4.5 out of 5 and another Highly Recommended rating.

The 32mm model produced an 11.5-watt rolling-resistance result under the same laboratory’s testing method, together with 44 puncture-resistance points and a wet-grip score of 78.

Laboratory results should only be compared with products tested under the same protocol. However, these results reinforce the Michelin Pro5 TLR Competition Line’s primary strengths: efficient rolling, dependable grip and practical casing protection.

Tubeless installation

Use compatible tubeless-ready wheels, correctly sized rim tape, suitable tubeless valves and fresh bicycle tyre sealant. Follow the wheel manufacturer’s tyre-width and pressure requirements, particularly with hookless rims.

If the tyre cannot be seated safely using appropriate workshop equipment, professional tubeless tyre installation is recommended. Do not exceed the tyre or rim manufacturer’s stated pressure limit in an attempt to seat the bead.

Sealant maintenance

Inspect the sealant approximately every two to four months. More frequent checks may be necessary in hot Australian conditions because sustained heat can accelerate evaporation.

Top up or replace the sealant according to the sealant manufacturer’s instructions. Dried sealant may no longer seal small punctures effectively.

Pressure checks

Check tyre pressure before every ride. Tubeless systems naturally lose some air over time, and a wide tyre can still appear firm even when its pressure has fallen below the intended level.

Use a reliable pressure gauge and select pressure according to tyre width, system weight, rim type, road conditions and wheel manufacturer limits.

Cleaning

Clean the tyre with water, mild bicycle wash and a soft brush or cloth. Avoid petroleum-based solvents, aggressive degreasers and abrasive cleaning products that may damage the rubber or sidewall.

Inspection

Regularly inspect the tread and sidewalls for cuts, exposed casing, embedded glass, sealant leakage or impact damage. Replace the tyre if the casing becomes visible, the sidewall is damaged or a cut cannot be safely sealed.

Workshop service

Professional bicycle servicing is recommended if the tyre repeatedly loses pressure, develops sidewall damage, releases air during hard cornering or will not remain correctly seated. The rim tape, tubeless valve, sealant, tyre bead and rim condition should all be included in the inspection.

Warranty

Michelin bicycle tyres are covered against eligible manufacturing defects under the applicable regional warranty process. Normal tread wear, punctures, cuts, crash damage, incorrect installation, unsuitable pressure and damage caused by incompatible rims or chemicals are not normally classified as manufacturing defects.
