Shimano Di2 wireless shifting
The Shimano 105 Di2 R7170 Shift Brake Lever Set transmits shift commands wirelessly to the compatible rear derailleur. This removes electronic wires from the handlebar area, improves cockpit appearance and simplifies routing through integrated handlebars and internally routed frames.
Each control uses two readily available CR1632 coin batteries. Shimano claims a typical operating life of approximately 3.5 to 4 years, although actual life depends on shift frequency, storage conditions, temperature and battery quality.
Dual Control Lever design
Shimano’s Dual Control Lever system integrates electronic gear selection and hydraulic braking into one road-bike control. Separate shift buttons allow riders to move up or down the cassette without releasing their grip on the hood or drop.
The electronic buttons require much less movement than a mechanical shift lever, which can benefit riders with smaller hands, reduced hand strength or fatigue during long-distance events.
E-TUBE PROJECT customisation
Compatible shift-button functions can be changed through Shimano E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist. Riders can reverse the standard button arrangement, configure multi-shift behaviour and manage drivetrain settings according to personal preference.
The controls can also work with Shimano Full Synchronized Shift and Semi-Synchronized Shift when used as part of a complete compatible Di2 system. These modes coordinate front and rear gear changes to help reduce sudden changes in cadence.
Ergonomic hood construction
The controls use a raised hood peak and an extended upper body to increase hand support. The shape provides a secure position during seated climbing and helps spread pressure across the hand on long rides.
Reach adjustment allows the lever blade to be positioned closer to or farther from the handlebar. This can improve braking confidence for riders with smaller hands and make the lever easier to access from the drops.
Unlike Shimano Ultegra and Dura-Ace 12-speed controls, the Shimano 105 Di2 levers do not include an additional programmable hood-top button or ports for satellite sprint and climbing switches.
