Bead-to-Bead Shield

Michelin’s Bead-to-Bead Shield reinforces the tyre across the complete casing rather than protecting only the central tread area. This construction helps reduce vulnerability to punctures, sharp stones and sidewall cuts when riding on gravel roads, rocky fire trails and debris-covered road shoulders.

Full-casing reinforcement is particularly useful for Australian gravel riding, where surfaces can change quickly from smooth hardpack to exposed rock, corrugations and sharp-edged gravel. It also provides additional reassurance for bikepacking, where luggage increases the total load placed on the tyres.

3 x 120 TPI Casing

The multi-layer 3 x 120 TPI casing is designed to balance flexibility, support and protection. A flexible casing allows the tyre to deform around smaller stones and surface irregularities, helping it maintain traction while improving comfort over broken ground.

The reinforced construction is more durable than a lightweight gravel racing casing. This makes the Michelin Power Gravel Competition Line better suited to training, exploration, commuting and high-mileage adventure riding where reliability is more important than saving a small amount of rotating weight.

Gravel-Specific Rubber Compound

The tread compound is developed to provide durable performance across sealed roads and unsealed terrain. It is intended to resist accelerated wear during regular bitumen use while retaining useful traction on gravel roads, forest tracks and dry trails.

This balance is valuable for Australian riders who often cover extended sealed-road sections before reaching gravel. A softer competition-only compound may provide greater immediate grip but can wear more quickly when regularly ridden on asphalt.

Gravel Design Tread Pattern

The tread uses small, closely arranged blocks through the centre to reduce vibration and rolling drag on firm surfaces. More pronounced shoulder blocks provide additional mechanical grip while cornering or riding across loose terrain.

The transition between the centre and shoulder tread helps the tyre remain predictable as the bike leans into a turn. It performs particularly well on dry gravel, hardpack, rail trails and dusty tracks, although its moderate tread depth is not designed for deep mud or highly technical mountain bike terrain.

Tubeless-Ready Construction

Tubeless installation allows the Michelin Power Gravel Competition Line to operate at lower pressures than a conventional tyre and inner-tube setup. Lower pressure helps the casing conform to rough ground, increasing comfort, traction and control.

Liquid tubeless sealant can automatically close many small punctures caused by thorns, wire and sharp gravel. Removing the inner tube also reduces the risk of conventional pinch flats, although rim strikes and casing damage remain possible if pressure is set too low.

The tyre may also be used with a compatible inner tube if a tubeless setup is not preferred.

Hookless Compatibility

Current Michelin specifications identify compatible Power Gravel variants for use with suitable hooked and hookless rims. Riders must confirm that the selected tyre width is approved by the wheel manufacturer and observe the lowest maximum pressure stated by either the tyre or rim manufacturer.
