The Princeton CarbonWorks Dual 5550 Evolution is built around a distinctive sinusoidal carbon rim that repeatedly transitions between approximately 50mm and 55mm in depth. Rather than using a conventional constant-depth profile, Princeton CarbonWorks varies the rim section around the wheel to influence airflow at different yaw angles. The objective is to retain the aerodynamic advantage of a deep carbon wheel while making its steering response more predictable when winds change direction.

This characteristic is particularly useful on exposed roads, coastal routes and fast descents where sudden crosswinds can make a traditional deep front wheel feel demanding. The Dual 5550 Evolution remains a performance-focused wheelset, but its variable profile gives it a more versatile character than a specialised time-trial wheel.

Its 24mm internal width is designed around contemporary high-volume tyres. A wider rim allows a compatible tyre to adopt a more supported shape, which can improve cornering stability and permit lower pressures for additional grip and comfort. Princeton CarbonWorks uses a hooked bead rather than a hookless interface.
